I just got back last night from my friend's cabin in Eastern Washington by Roosevelt Lake. It was amazing! I can't even begin to describe how freeing it was. There was no electricity, we had to cook everything on a propane stove, we partied every night, got drunk and high whenever we felt like it, I read the Upanishads every morning and reflected on them, we went to the lake every day, and I even jumped off a cliff into the lake(I'm very afraid of heights)! My parents told me not to go in the lake because I'm such a "bad swimmer", but when I got there, I found myself swimming more and better than I ever have before! Shows what they know.

Being away from the people who hold me back the most (parents and a very messed up ex-boyfriend), as well as work and the "normal" world west of the mountains for so long has recharged my soul, and I just want to tell you all that you should get away to the wilderness whenever you can, because it is the most freeing thing you can do! Really, I feel sooooooo much better than before I left. I miss the cabin already! Does anyone else here have a great and magical place they go to get away from it all?

    Hi Nova,
I'm so glad you have this experience! I have a story, where I can somewhat relate.
I have lived in South Carolina all of my life. I had not left South Carolina, until I was 11- then only to North Carolina, but just barely. I eventually made my way to virginia, maryland, deleware, new jersey, and new york...finally, to colorado. WOW, was colorado so different from where I have always been. One evening of my 7 day stay in colorado, we went to the cabin of my hubby's dad's friends. They live in Conifer. We were staying in Aurora. Finally, we got to their cabin. On the way up, I knew this was going to be some kinda experience but I had no idea what paradise lay ahead. When we got there, the married couple living there, met us at the door. It had started snowing a little bit. Upon stepping inside, it was obvious that these mountain folk knew how to live. Their dog lay near the burning wood fire place. The kitchen smelled of roasted veggies. I immediatly took my shoes off and found my place near the dog. The couple was so nice. I felt so at home there, I eventually took my place next to the woman in the kitchen, as we talked of school, marriage, hot tea, dogs, and her fresh, homemade pesto and such yummy hummus. When we went on her back porch you could see Pike's Peak and areas where wildfires had cleared off large areas of land. Finally, it was time for dinner. I was so excited and thrilled, and honored to be sitting with these wonderful people and eating with them. During dinner it started showing heavily. It piled up quickly. Before we left we took pictures on the porch in the snow. A genuine smile I can assure you. When it was time to go, we bid one another farewell. I cannot wait until our paths cross again, Lord willing. I hope you enjoyed my story. So come on, share your story!
