JACKSON BROWNE lyrics - "Lives In The Balance" www.OldieLyrics.com I've been waiting for something to happen For a week or a month or a year With the blood in the ink of the headlines And the sound of the crowd in my ear You might ask what it takes to remember When you know that you've seen it before Where a government lies to a people And a country is drifting to war And there's a shadow on the faces Of the men who send the guns To the wars that are fought in places Where their business interest runs On the radio talk shows and the T.V. You hear one thing again and again How the U.S.A. stands for freedom And we come to the aid of a friend But who are the ones that we call our friends These governments killing their own? Or the people who finally can't take any more And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone There are lives in the balance There are people under fire There are children at the cannons And there is blood on the wire There's a shadow on the faces Of the men who fan the flames Of the wars that are fought in places Where we can't even say the names They sell us the President the same way They sell us our clothes and our cars They sell us every thing from youth to religion The same time they sell us our wars I want to know who the men in the shadows are I want to hear somebody asking them why They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are But they're never the ones to fight or to die And there are lives in the balance There are people under fire There are children at the cannons And there is blood on the wire JACKSON BROWNE - "Lives In The Balance" lyrics See more JACKSON BROWNE lyrics www.OldieLyrics.com document.write('');
Monster/Suicide/America by Steppenwolf from Monster 1969 (Monster) Once the religious, the hunted and weary Chasing the promise of freedom and hope Came to this country to build a new vision Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope Like good Christians, some would burn the witches Later some got slaves to gather riches But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light And once the ties with the crown had been broken Westward in saddle and wagon it went And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean Many the lives which had come to an end While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland We began the slaughter of the red man But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light The blue and grey they stomped it They kicked it just like a dog And when the war over They stuffed it just like a hog And though the past has it's share of injustice Kind was the spirit in many a way But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping Now it's a monster and will not obey (Suicide) The spirit was freedom and justice And it's keepers seem generous and kind It's leaders were supposed to serve the country But now they won't pay it no mind 'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy And now their vote is a meaningless joke They babble about law and order But it's all just an echo of what they've been told Yeah, there's a monster on the loose It's got our heads into a noose And it just sits there watchin' Our cities have turned into jungles And corruption is stranglin' the land The police force is watching the people And the people just can't understand We don't know how to mind our own business 'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us Now we are fighting a war over there No matter who's the winner We can't pay the cost 'Cause there's a monster on the loose It's got our heads into a noose And it just sits there watching (America) America where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters? Don't you know we need you now We can't fight alone against the monster
Very Good-When I was 16 and growing up in San Francisco; the American Indians took over Alcatraz Island-It was funny at first but then it became a very special and meaningful protest to the way in which we took their land and stuck them in confined areas of hard rock and cactus-nice!--So-my mom would load up the car with food and blankets and we would drive to the docks and donate to them-Compassion and tolerance for others starts at home-I was fortunate to have been taught this young-to respect others no matter what-Why can't our leaders do the same-Why do we always try to push others this way and that?-What have we as Americans learned in 100 years-?-to grab land?_thats it?-sad!
I was watching a film tonight. A documentary of The Code Writers. The Navaho Indians who wrote code in their native tongue, and used it throughout WWII. It was never broken. A major contribution to the war effort, but they were forced to keep it secret until 1968. Some of them being interviewed were talking about how when they were little kids on the reservation schools they were whipped or locked into rooms if they used their native tongue. Yet 15% of the soldiers in WWII were native Americans who enlisted to fight for their land (and country) and keep their warrior traditions alive. It's nice to see them making bank on their reservations with the Casinos and hotels. From what I have seen, and the kindness of the few I've known, they have earned my respect. Ya, and oil.
did some custom moccasins for Jackson Browne years ago when he was first becoming famous. don't care for his music, to political for one, not as moving as the ole 60's rock and roll groups.
-I saw a documentary on those code talkers-maybe on History channel-they did do alot to help fight that war-Ya know-I live about 1 mile from the Columbia River and this is the same river Lewis and Clark followed to the sea from St. Loius-I was sitting on the bank the other day and just pictured what they must have thought as they started down this river-back then there were no dams to slow it down and the wjhite water rapids are fierce-They made canous out of trees-they hunted deer-bear etc and because there were no maps of the area yet and no gps; they depended on the local Indian tribes to show them the way as well as how to build boats and hunt and fish-They were successful in making the 2 year journey only because of the help they recieved from local tribes-So; how did we thank them?-After they got back to St. Lewis word spread about the "free" land out west-No matter that it belonged to the Indians-We packed up the wagons and killed our way west-after everyone had grabbed all the best farm land' we gave the Indians what was left-places in the desert and high country-How cold blooded was that?-Why did we not work with them instead of ripping them off-They would have gladly shared the land-but when we started killing them and all the buffalo they had second thoughts about who we were and what we wanted; which was whatever we could grab-If anyone has a right to be pissed about their situation it is the Native Americans-and with good right-
