Is anyone else watching this? It's on A&E right now and it's gonna be one for another 2 hours or so. They are talking about weed and coke and LSD and all that shit. It's pretty interesting. I think I have seen it before on the History Channel.

I've seen that a couple times-- it's super interesting, because they go WAYYY back into history about drug usage.

Yeah they tell about the origins and discovery of the drugs; all the way back to the original synthesis. It talks about celebrities that were addicted to the drugs back before they were criminalized. It talks about Sherlock Holmes and Sigmund Freud injecting coke and becoming addicts.

watching it right now. Strangely enough, I was downstairs joking about my black cat laying on our piano being a black jazz musician and said "he's got the reefer madness!" when my dad said "hey, I'm watching something about that on TV"

very weird, considering my dad is a conservative with an extreme negative view of all drugs barring moderate alcohol use and caffeine, I guess..

Most people will say well it doesnt matter that its illegal people will still do it but that isnt the point of the show. The reason cannabis was made illegal is not cause its bad like alot of ignorant folks will believe. There is a saying that a good way to avoid ignorance is to know a little bit about the history of the particular subject u are talking about. The history of why marijuan is illegal isnt based on because its bad. Its based on racism, economics..etc.

Alcohol and cigarettes arnt exactly good.

Pretty interesting stuff. They have it broken down by episode with opiates & heroin; cocaine; marijuana and amphetamine; and LSD & synthetic psychedelics. After seeing all the episodes it's interesting that alot of the drug control laws were measures to discriminate against a specific race or ethnic group in America at that time. Opium addiction became a problem that the government blamed on the chinese; cocaine allegedly turned free black men into white women rapers; controlling marijuana was one of the ways to control the the mexican migrant worker population; and LSD was the "evil" hippie drug that fueled the counterculture at that time.

Drug control is just a form of social control, not so much a way to stop people from harming themselves.
