i've been on the depo shot for about 2 months (don't plan on staying on it when this is over) and for the past week and some i've been heavily spotting yes i was told i would spot on occasion but this has beenn for quite awhile and it is starting to get annoying i either have to wear a light tampon or change panty liners every hour or so. is anyone else having or had this problem? -shaina
I was on depo for a year and a half...get out while you can!!!! When they gave me the first shot, i bled for a month straight, and it was miserable! Then the side effects really took hold. I began being erractic in my behavoir and mood swings. I couldnt keep a consistent mood the entire time i was on it. My boyfriend, god love him, and i fought all the time due to my inability to control my mood and emotions. Sure, you never get your period after the first couple of shots...but then that leads to paranoid pregnancy tests (i took 3!!) because you cant control your own mind....get off get offf get off! That is the best advice i can give to you.... you can go right from the depo onto birth control pills without having to wait that month before the pills become effective. Do that and give yourself a month to mellow out emotionally. Big doses of hormones are never good, trust me! Peace and Love, hope i helped
I second that--GET OFF IT NOW!!!!! I was on it for almost 3 years..after finally going off it, it took a year and a half to become "normal" again, and there again I'm still having problems..I now have PCOS, which I didn't have before the Depo shot either, and my OBGYN said that the Depo, very well could have helped bring that on. While on the shot I was the most horrible person to be around, my husband and I fought all the time, I gained weight like nobody's business, my libido was SHOT, and that's just the small stuff...the first time I got the shot I bled for almost 2 months..then didn't have a cycle in forever. If at any point in the next several years you even THINK you want kids--you definitely need to get off the shot. There are so many other alternatives out there that won't screw you up anywhere near what the Depo will. Good luck!!!
