Are there any TV families whatsoever that are not Christian? Rarely, I'll see one that's Jewish (The War at Home), but what about the other faiths? I've never seen a Muslim, Pagan, Buddhist, Hindu family on TV. Do they exist?
Well, I didn't realize there were any Christian TV families, but that shows you how little TV I watch. The sitcoms and so forth that I've ever watched, the families bascically didn't have any religion at all. I'm on the Internet all the time, so what do I know?...
I don't think that religeon in a tv series is that important it should be kept neutral as much as possible....
To explain further, most families are TV are not overtly religious, but occasionally they'll mention something they said or did in church and they usually go to church on Sundays. Despite the fact that church-goers are now in the minority in the US, the vast majority of TV families will mention attending church at some point during the show, thereby implying a Christian belief (or else they'd call it temple or mosque or circle or whatever).
Yeah, they have a few characters on TV once in a while, but I'm talking about whole families. Lisa Simpson may be Buddhist, but she still goes to church with the family and her religion is rarely (if ever) mentioned.
There are blacks - Bernie Mack, My Wife and Kids, the Proud Family. And that's just from flipping through the channels, I'm sure there are more.
The Conners on "Roseanne" weren't religious. There was a whole episode about their son going to church to figure out his religious beliefs, and the Conners had a hard time explaining that they were non-believers. I thought it was a great episode in TV history. It had never been done before. Sm**chies! Jacob.
