Hey All, I have frequent thoughts of leaving my day job in IT (here in Amsterdam) and becoming a boat captain doing tours of the Amsterdam canals and waterways. So to get me started... I'm looking for chilled out passengers to show round in my open top boat (Pixie Dust). Trust me - there is no other way to see this gorgeous city - and unlike other official boat tours smoking on board is not only permitted it's damn near compulsory. It will be a "Magic Hat" system of payment. That is that after the trip you make a contibution to the hat based on what you think it was worth and what you can afford. Of course you could just feed the driver continuous spliffs during the journey ;-) The latter option is never going to make me rich - but seems to leave me feeling fairly content! awesome matt, sounds fun.... were always looking for boats to rent for our group o'party pigs. we rent boats every year when we meet up for a week during queens day. were always open to trying new boat captains and we would love to reserve your boat during that time for queens night, queens day and probably more. Could you give more details? 1. max number of people allowed 2. do you have a stereo system on board...we need the rock n roll 3. give a cost per person, were more than willing to pay a fair price 4. were renting houseboats in the city center...could you pick up and drop off at our houseboats? Hey there, Answers to some questions: The boat seats about 10 (8 with a bit of space to spread out - 12 friendly). It's a 6 meter open top mahogany clinker built sloep built in the 70s. As it's wooden though I do tend to have to keep out of the big canal crushes like you get on Queen's day (unless I have an on the ball crew who can fend off attacking metal boats)! Sound system waiting to be sorted out - but will be there by the end of this summer. Will probably be reasonably tame though - for the big parties many people use a portable generator... Prices? There's a question. I'm guessing 5-10 euros per person depending on where we're going / how long we'll be out etc. It's all unlicenced etc so shhh, don't tell anyone ;-) PlasticeFace - the boat usually goes into store the winter in late October, but drop me a line anyway closer the time about November, I'm looking to make new arrangements. Hoi Matt, great idea. I have no doubt you could stay very busy with the right marketing. I think you could charge more and get it quite easily.
