I got popcorn, and pretty much any veggie, you say dips? what kind of dips for the carrots and such are good for you? Trying to eat healthy is kinda reminding me of when I quit smoking, I have INSANE cravings for a freaking burger or other fried food.. pretty insane to think going a week without pot is by far eaiser then trying to go with out a burger or soda drink. For my soda cravings I'm drinking Diet dr. pepper and thats working but I'm eating the hell outta some oranges and carrots dipped in salsa and I need more tastes to get through the fast food high calorie diet withdrawls lol... Anything in the cracker isle? what dips to make veggies better, chicken breast is good for ya right? think chicken breast/bellpepper/fajitas are going to be for dinner What about cheese? I need ot buy a book lol... but ya those of you doing this as well know the cravings of fast food/junk are pretty intense at times... hope we can collect some more ideas... Whats hummus? Mike..
Hummus is a chickpea dip. Cheese isn't that good for you, and I'd say chicken is arguable, but I'm biased on that one.
Salsa. Yum. Cheese in moderation can be ok, I usually get the Cabot 50% light or 75% light cheese. Yogurt is good, sugar free pudding, cool whip free, chicken without the skin is a good source of protien(if you eat meat, which by your post I'm assuming). Have a buger if you want one, just go to the store or meat market and get the leanest ground beef (or turkey is my favorite) and grill it at home with some worshishire sauce mixed in. Yum. there are fat free hot dogs, whole wheat buns, pickles are a veggie, there are these 30 calorie fruit pops I got at walmart, I forget the brand though. fruit. hmm... i'm thinking... i drink seltzer and pretend like it is soda. i like the smuckers all natural peanut butter, but make sure it is that brand, the other brands still add tons of perservatives and pretend to be all natural (and you might want to consider peanut butter in moderation as well). find crackers with a lot of fiber in them. eggs are good snacks (hard boiled), nuts (in moderation), sunflower seeds (unsalted), protien shakes are good to hold you over for a while, granola bars (check the nutrition labels not all of them are "healthy", i also like the "Light" doritos and other chips. Beef Jerky is low in fat content, and carbs. Not sure what type of program you are trying to follow. I find that single serving portions are always easier to control. cottage cheese doubles are good. I can't think of anything else right this moment, but this is some stuff to get you started. Good Luck! Here is a good website that has a lot of tastey ideas:http://www.hungry-girl.com/ if you sign up for the emails, you will get new good ideas every day!
Watch your sugar and bread. A serving of bread is only one slice, half a bagel, half a english muffin, etc. With the supersized portion sizes now, it's easy to forget that. Really, try to stay away from things like crackers, etc. I'm a bit of a South Beach diet freak now, but it honestly grosses me out to have even one cracker that's not completely whole wheat/ flax meal. Frozen grapes are good now that it's getting warmer out. I looove me some frozen grapes. Also, you can have a hamburger. Just grill it yourself, get the leanest ground beef (or make a turkey burger), and leave out the bun.
high fiber cereal is great. i like to get a ziplock bag, through some fiber cereal, rasins and prunes in there and just pick at it all day. put some yogurt covered raisins if you find that you just NEED some sweetness with it- but beleive me, its goooood.
Oh yeah, a snack mix a friend of mine made up one time was 1 cup cherios, 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips, 1/2 cup mini marshmallow, and some peanuts. Oh it is so good and just the right amount of sweetness, but still pretty healthy. I've been on a popcorn kick. I put old bay on it. Also, I just read some articles on goat meat. If you eat meat you should look into its benefits. Yummy goat curry.
I just rediscovered the awesomeness of soy nuts. They're probably sort of high-calorie, but they are really satisfying in small amounts, and have a neat texture! ~Nova
Soy anything is generally better for you. Soy milk is ten times better and provides essential omega-3 fatty acids. Soy granola is low in fat and a wonderful snack. Dried fruits are delicious! (I discovered powdered dates today.....yum!) Pita bread and hummus, chips and salsa...all in moderation
i am hooked on these rice crackers, made by a co called "asian gourmet" they come in bbq, cheddar, sesame, and my FAVORITE: Wasabi! and a serving is like 18 of these thin crackers. (120 cal, 2 grams of fat) yum. i get them at waldbaums and they are only $1.25 a package.
