I just recently (about a week and a half ago) started the proccess of allowing my hair to dread itself. Okay that is a bit of a lie... At first I was nieve enough to use a wax product, I've managed to wash the majority of it out (thank goodness). I've also back-comed it and palm rolled it (way too much work, plus these wonderful forums have converted me and now I too am a fan of natural dreads). I still have it sectioned out (so that I will have many thin dreads), and am going to leave it sectioned for the first while untill they noticeably lock up. Okay okay enough with the foreplay...

My hair is quite curly and so naturally all of the sections have become nice curly sections of hair. I have never seen any photographs of curled dreads, with the exception of AKi's beautiful locks, and I am wondering as they become more and more knotted will they straighten out or will the knots just form in a way that my dreads will be curly (I have a very strong suspiscion that they will straighten)? At first (after I was able to remove most of the wax) and my hair started curling up I was slightly annoyed, but now am just intrigued by the possibility of curled dreads. I am very excited to have begun this whole process.

Ps: I've also included a picture of me one week after starting my dreads to give you an idea of what I am talking about as well as the fact everyone likes visuals.

i have curly hair, i back combed my locks, and used a tiny bit of wax after a few weeks just to smooth in the flyaways. my dreads were curly for the first month to two months, then as they got knotted up really well they straightened out. i suspect yours will straighten out once they are good and knotted up. try palm rolling them maybe, just a few minutes every now and then. you dont want to go overboard with that though, might make them a little flat and drab, and the best part about curly locks can be that they are nice and crazyyy and stick out all over as they knot up : )

I'm more than 4 months into the dreading journey, my hair is very curly and most of it isn't knotted yet, just 4-6 inches from the roots. the rest is still curly and soft :) if you go all natural, your hair will probably remain curly for a long time, until all the hair begins to lock. enjoy!

My hair is curly as well. I'm using a hemp shampoo and a spray of salt water and lemon juice. My dreads are about 8 monthes old. It just takes time for the dreads to form (not all my hair is dreading either).

    Peace and love

yea man my friend has completely natural dreads because his hair is like spirals and his dreads are really thin too. they dont even look natural because the sections are so uniform and perfectly sized the same its weird. but anyways his dreads are almost all skinnier than a pinkie and arent curly untill it gets close to the tip and like all of his tips are curly. his are short though. so i suspect when yours grow out they will rap around other dreads and congo a lot and just get thicker and the curlyness will get sucked up inton the dread. all is well

I dunno where you're getting your info, but ALL KINDS OF WAX IS BAD! It traps in bacteria. your dreads will smell and it's uber hard to wash it out! I have semi curly hair and the curly parts of my hair crunched up and made the dreads smaller than the others. they are cute tho. They will straighten out. it just takes time.
