I'm not ashamed of being black and in fact I like it. My ancestors were kings in Africa until cruelly stolen away by Arab and Chinese slave traders. Here they were smarter than other slaves, and got generation after generation of us through school and on to college so we're now a prosperous black family. I'm comfortable in my skin... well, except when it comes to metal. See, I like a lot of metal, from Judas Priest to Suffocation to Sleep Terror to Gorguts, but my favorite genre has always ended up being the Hitler metal bands. You know. Graveland. Burzum. Darkthrone. Infernum. Absurd. Ohtar. And it's pretty hard to escape. Mayhem used to have Nazi flags in their practice space, Immortal are always waving that Norwegian flag around, and most other bands have at least one member that's either a Nazi or well on the way there. That's cool by me since Nazis and me usually steer clear of each other, but sometimes, I feel really bad liking this stuff. Thinking about my grandmother saving up to put my dad through college at a time when white folks wouldn't let us into theatres. Or my great-great-grandfather working his way up from sharecropper after the civil war. And here I am, in my suburban bedroom, cranking some music about white people crushing everyone else and laughing about it. Is there something wrong with me?

sounds like it could generate self hate, or create/reinforce opinions you might already have about other people of color.
there has to be metal that can speak to you and not denegrate you.
You wouldn't let crackheds crash in your place.... why give hate free rent in your head?

Yeah I agree with the above poster here. There's nothing wrong with you exactly but it could cause some strange thought patterns if you keep listening to it...

I am black. I listen to all genres of music, but I refuse to listen to any bands or singers that openly promote hate and negativity. Nothing is wrong with you. You like what you are comfortable with. Ask yourself questions, why you like that genre of music. The heavy guitar riffs or the lyrics maybe? Be careful music can change the way you feel.

I'm bisexual and I love all of those bands too. I listen for the music and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. BTW, what is wrong with Immortal waving a Norwegian flag? They're Norwegian! If you saw an American band waving an American flag would that be racist? Also, where did you hear that MayheM had Nazi flags? Also, where did you hear Darkthrone are Nazis?
Any way, all the Nazis want me dead too, but I judge music by what it sounds like, not by the politics of the musician. I think of it this way: when I go to a resteraunt I care about what the food tastes like, not the politics of the chef.

Right fucking on! Norway was one of the first countries to form resistance against the nazis, and us danes were the ones who made the highest number of sabotages during the war... Just cause we're a country full of fair skinned and blue eyed people it doesn't make us nazis... They can wave their flag all they want to...

They're norwegian black metal, they don't hate a race, they hate everybody...

As for the rest of your post, I don't see anything wrong with it... Listen to what you like and stop worrying so much

I guess not all mental bands are that way…..maybe if you try to listen mainly to them

I should not really use music as an excuse but if I was to like a band that was against something that I was there is like always that fear of looking up to them and gaining similar views.

Just the other day one of my closest friends said to me that I’m black and I should listen to rap and hip hop and that kinda stuff like that

Well 2 be honest I do listen to all types of music but I would say mostly Rock (mainly kinda grunge) “that sort of music speaks to me – well I used to sort of hide it (yeah cause of people thinking that I have no respect for my colour), until one day I did not care anymore cause after all I worship my colour as much as anybody else. But well I do stay clear of bands that are really extreme and promote like negative things

Dude there are lots of good metal bands that dont promote racism. I personally think its screwed to listen to music that degrades you and your ancestors but whatever floats your boat man.

But i guess in the end its no different then all the straight up white gangsters around here listening to music that degrades them as a race.

I'm gay, have black, Jewish and Muslim friends, and I like Kristallnacht, Ad Hominem, Bilskirnir, Burzum, Seigneur Voland... all explicitly national socialist. Then there are bands I like who only implied possible national socialism, like Mayhem, Darkthrone, Forefather, Marduk, Falkenbach, Luror...

So I don't give a fuck about themes and lyrics as long as the music is good. I know it doesn't influence me. It will not turn me into a racist, war-glorifying retard. And I don't know why it would be wrong for you to listen to NSBM either. More power to you!

Absurd, Nokturnal Mortum, Aryan Terrorism, Swastyka and Graveland don't flop my mop much though.

I haven't heard the others, but Absurd and Graveland kick ass. But, whatever floats your boat.

I tend not to pay too much attention to lyrics these days I just enjoy the music. But knowing that a band are complete idiots can turn the music abit sour and put me off. Just like loving Pantera, Down and Superjoint Ritual and hearing all the mindless nationalist Bush-esque shit Anselmo comes out with sometimes. But also when the bands dress up with make-up and spikes it tends to put me off I must say, which what I like about bands like Nile, straight up music.

*listens to Bilskirnir - Bis Germanien erwacht*
Good shit. Wouldn't want to miss this even if they killed jewish babies for fun.

More importantly: it has 'bil' in the name, which is also Dutch for 'bumcheek'.

    :D

Listen to whatever you wanna listen to. Just because you listen to Hitler music doesnt mean you love Hitler. Just because I listen to bands that worship satan doesnt mean I worship satan. Its your life do what you feel and if people ridicule you for listening to some nazi metal punch them in the face. No body has the right to tell you that what your listening to is wrong and you should stop because it may be offensive. So just keep on listening to it and have a good time!

If you start acting out the actions they sing about then we might have a problem. Hahaha J/K.

For the most part no one can make out what those guys say anyway. I don't let the band's beliefs, or whatever effect my opinion on their music. If it sounds good, play it!.
