So lately when i've been on my run i've been getting these REALLY bad cramps in my stomach/side. I drink a lot of water per day so what is going on? what causes these cramps? I feel like I could be running much longer without stopping if it wasn't for these deabilitating cramps. any suggestions?? thanks :)

how long have you been running for? I've heard that if you have weak abdominal muscles, you can be more prone to cramps like that. My old soccer coach made us do extra crunches/sit ups if we cramped up while running. It seemed to help a lot.

I've heard that it has more to do with oxygen intake than water consumption.

These stomach cramps or "side stitches" as i call them are caused from irregular breathing. You can work them out when you run by pinching the area, or just by waiting it out..but the pinching works wonderfully for me.

Guys.. think logicaly... if its sotmach then problem is somewhere in stomach right ? y dopes it have to be breathing ??? if ur body needed more oxygen , ur brain would fatique simply not send strange impules through ur stomach..... Try good nutritinon.. I paly almost pro soccer. and before i started my super great nutritoon programm, soy milk, fruits, carbs, i in my childhood ahd thousands of stomach craps before.. i hate them. but it simply ended afte good healthy meal... try eating bread-rice-juice. aor some snack 3-2 hours prior running and then jsut drink water, adnu 'll see benefits <3

Yes..let's think logically, shall we? Not getting enough oxygen would cause fatigue. Irregular breathing is not having a steady breathing pattern which can cause your muscles to cramp >since the oxygen is going straight to the muscles<

Irregular breathing is even worser than breaking ur leg......Irregular breathing always send different ammounts of oxugen through ur heart therefore heart expands more or less breaking balance and regular bit... twice or even more chances heart attack is comming if u dont change ur life.

    take this, for example:

While running, i breathe in three times, then let it out in one, and this is my constant breathing pattern whilst running. This is better for you in the sense that you aren't breatheing out while landing on the same foot each time, which could cause a jarred knee, etc etc.

Anyway, if for some reason, i start to breathe twice, then let it out in one breath, by breathing pattern has changed, therefore, it has become irregular. Thus resulting in a side stitch....heart attacks were no variable in this.

You could possibly not be drinking a lot. Yes, you drink water daily, but in the heat....are you drinking ENOUGH to stay hydrated.
I've heard it has to do with being dehydrated and/or breathing.
