The truth is, there is no environmentally-conscious car, there is only the image of an environmentally conscious car.

If everyone who was concerned about oil crises and environmental pollution decided they would sell their cars, and instead put their money into their city's public transportation system, it would in turn lead to improvements in said transportation system... and if enough people sold their cars and bought bus tickets instead, then eventually the public transportation system would be efficient enough to meet all of their transportation needs with less harm to the environment, and less strain on natural resources. The automotive industry would in turn experience heavy losses, and the money-makers in charge would escape to better money-making enterprises. We would have effectively eliminated a major source of pollution, as well as easing the strain on our natural resources. In the process, we would have created a more sociable and efficient means of getting to where we want to go.

Most of the problems in our world do not involve all-powerful evil entities controlling the world, but mass-submission to the chief priority of the captialist economy... even as we passionately denounce it as evil.

The chief priority of this system is not wealth, but desire. Every individual's degree of success within the capitalist system comes from knowing what the people desire, and then applying that knowledge. If you know what people want, you will make money by giving it to them.

All of this includes sex, violence, drugs, cars, sugar, alcohol, tobacco, computers. The fact is that desire overcomes morality so often that all morality is basically pure abstraction.

People need to feel guilty, or they need to feel afraid. Sometimes I even believe that they must be forced to give up what they need, and their power needs to be taken away, because they will only use it to oppress themselves and everyone around them. It is a horrific process, and it is ongoing. In fact, there is probably going to be another dark age soon... where things start going backwards instead of forwards, and we are forced to make due with less instead of more. Maybe a kind of fascism? If people are afraid enough, it will be acceptable.

We are made to feel helpless, in danger, and distant by the government, corporations, hell- eachother. This creates a void in people that they try to fill with 'information', their opinions, children, a husband/wife, products, anything. Yet at the end of the day, deep down we still feel that void. Its a pretty tough cycle for the people, but its gold for the people in charge (monitarily or in terms of policy). The problems we see arising are from an overcomplication of the world and a loss of education about real human topics.

Excuse me, but I think I'm going to go cry now.
