http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060727/us_nm/diet_dc My mother was dying slowly of advanced diabetes when she fell out of her wheelchair and cracked her skull on the nursing home floor, which resulted eventually in her death. Her diabetes had advanced very far and she had aged way beyond her years because my father, who had been her caretaker until the state stepped in, stubbornly believed that diet had nothing to do with her condition.

Ahhh, now I get it! I was right on the border for having/not having gestational diabetes while pregnant with my daughter. AFTER having to go through the ghastly 4-hour fast-til-you-drop test my gramma & aunt inform me that they're both diabetic. Could have saved me a world of pain & discomfort if they'd have told me that one week earlier, but no I'm not complaining. I've been watching my diet like a hawk for the past 6.5 years, but my sugars have remained at that not-quite diabetic state. Every year I go with my mom, sisters, aunt & 3rd cousin to a conference about women's health, and among other tests we all have a fasting glucose screening done. This year (the first since going vegetarian) despite my being the heaviest, my sugar levels were FAR healthier than all 5 of the other women in my family Just one more reason to stick with it love, mom
i knew this to be true alread. i have a friend that was closing in on 350LBS.. her husband was nearing 400LBS. they had both tried every diet before deciding to go raw. then've both lost a lot of weight and neither are on their diabetic meds any more. last i talked to them, she was 198, and he was 220. this is the sire that changed there lives . www.fromsadtoraw.com
This is exactly the reason I made the decision to go vegetarian a few weeks ago. I weigh 300 pounds, have high blood pressure, diabetes, and arthritus. I have been on every diet in the world and nothing has helped. I can't stick to any diet very long. Now I am not on a diet. I have made the decision to eat good healthy food and do the best I can. I gave up all fast food and I've been eating a vegetarian diet. I don't know if I've lost any weight or not. I don't own a scale and I'm not going to buy one. But my blood sugar levels have been in the normal range for the first time since I was diagnosed with diabetes. I have been one meds for two years and they have had to keep increasing the dosage because it just wasn't getting any better. Now, with a change in eating I think I may eventually be able to go off the meds completely. I haven't checked my blood pressure lately, but I'm hoping it is being positively afected as well. I didn't read the attached article. But I 100% believe that going veggie is gonna save my life. Kathi
Yup this is great news for everyone! Of course many of us knew this long ago. I keep telling people that science is finally validating what we've been saying and doing for the past 30 years. 'Bout time!
Did you know that they are now linking the injections given to cattle, pigs and chickens (produced in mass with accelerated growth expectations) to cancer and diabetes causing agents? Apparently people in Ireland (where preservatives, growth hormones and antibiotic injections are illegal) rarely ever get diabetes. People there eat fresh farm food and no food is preserved. People there also have a much lower incidence of stroke, heart attack and liver disfunction (if you can believe it with there alcohol consumption)! It's too bad the fast food craze had to get so keyed up here, y'know? We could all have the ideal diet. It isnt necessarily the meat eating that makes it bad, but the way the animals are mistreated and the way the food is prepared. They are also linking cronic depression, excess overweight, and even ulcers to processed american meat. I'm not shocked even a little bit, but having seen that study report reinforces my belief in my new lifestyle.
