Label me as you will... I AM vegan. You obviously don't understand, nor do I expect you to, the gravity of my own personal obligations. That's okay... like I said I AM vegan, albeit a practitioner of hypocrisy because of my occupation (and very much not proud of it I might add). You are partially correct in your assertion that I support animal cruelty by slinging dead flesh to the flesheaters in that I am the middle-chick between the actaul supporters and it is a difficult thing for me to live with, but I am on a path to change that aspect of my life that I like to call the 'golden handcuffs'. I do not wish to continue with this line of work, but doing it does not make me any less vegan than the person working at the local veg co-op store. I'm sorry, but, you are wrong on this one.

*giggles in the corner* this got heated quickly.

It shouldn't matter what a person does to make ends meat. The point is, they are doing what they can to make a life for themselves. At times it is hard to find a job that suits your exact personality. Many times people get stuck in jobs they hate, that don't go along with their belief systems. There are so many people in this world that just have to take the job that comes to them. Trust me, if it were up to me, I wouldn't be working selling meat, but I have to because no other job will higher a barely high-school graduate with better pay than I'm getting now. I'm not saying all, but most people have this same issue.

why call yourself vegan?...cause its in fad?...or your friends are doing it?...it does matter if you take the time not to wear animal products ...and not to eat animal products to lessen animal cruelity and to label yourself a vegan but yet still work in a service that supports the meat industry ..this is hypocritical ...so why waste everyones time in calling yourself a vegan? when you are not....you are simply a vegetarian that cares .....to only a certain extent tho....

cheeze wiz, did you write the book on veganism? cuz i would like to buy it. where may i purchase it? they way you talk it sounds like you invented it.
you seem to be one of those "angry vegans" that absolutely loves animals with no abandon but has a grudge against mankind, excluding yourself of course.
i dont mean to be rude, and i dont want to be mean, but you are. and not on this post alone, on other posts ive seen too. i am all for different viewpoints, but you cant get people to understand yours if you call them awful names like "flesh breath sinner", or with posts of sheer sarcasm.
maybe you can work for mcd's and be a vegan, maybe you cant. point is veganism, to me, this is my personal viewpoint and not a rule or anything, doing everything in your power to not hurt animals or support animal cruelty. maybe, for some people, not having a job isnt in their power, and thats ok. but what is in everyone's power is working together against animal creulty, and this cant be achieved if your high on your throne all by yourself.
    again, i mean no disrespect.
    peace<3

by the way, 'cheeze wiz' is not vegan...
having that name supports the dairy industry, henceforth according to your logic, you are not a vegan!!!

exactly what occupations are considered vegan? and would any of these include enough cash to afford a place to live and all the necessities one needs in a particular set area.

p.s. i'm not looking for going on tour and making hemp necklaces, which I would love to do, just me and my boyfriend are looking for something more stable. seeing as we're both going back to school. him a musician (producer, sound board,s what have you) and I a registered nurse.

so it's ok if you are presently calling yourself a vegan & working somewhere that does not use any animal products/labor? is that what this is about?

What do you mean? Do you mean we can't call ourselves vegetarian if we live with meatosauruses? Oh, that would be awful!

That would mean that to call onesself a vegetarian they would have to change not only themselves, but also those around them. While it's a great concept, I can't see that as fair. While I do try to influence my family, when it comes right down to it I don't feel that it is my place to be making the choice for them on whether or not to eat meat.
    love,
    mom
