Hey all I havent cut/trimmed my beard in about 2 months now and I get comments from people I see on a semi regular basis but dont even know their names (recptionists, clerks) on my beard, always Pseudo Negative if not negative directly. "So....when are you cutting your beard?" "Are you going to trim it soon?" stuff like that. My favorite comments are "You look like your amish" which ive gotten on at least 5 seperate occasions (I regularly wear a straw hat, and only wear black and white so I guess I have that one comming) My family is the worst though, my grandmother tells me shes been praying to Jesus that I will at least trim my beard, and she claims to have had a dream where I shaved it off. The only ones who seem fine with it are my friends and coworkers (I work in a factory, my beard is small potatoes compared to some of my co-workers features) Im just wondering does anyone consistantly get positive responces about their beard or does it seem like your swimming upstream.
It probably has more to dow ith whether or not you look better without a beeard. Some people just dont like change either (ie your family). Maybe everyone just thinks youd look better cleanshaven or with your beard more shaved/kept in check? Who knows.
i got a few comments from family when my beard was scruffy....but never from strangers now that i have it more trimmed i do not get any of that...i guess i look more civilized..lol i like trimmed so i am fine with it ....if i liked it long...fuck them!...lol and you're still young, it most likely is a little bit of a shock for your family..your becoming an adult....or maybe they just think you look like a dirty hippie...lol they will just have to deal with it....
Kissing a man can be painful with a beard, moustache, etc. From a woman's perspective it could be seen as a food trap, amongst other things. Just a thought. Not my opinion. I'm not saying that it's dirty - it's just harder to keep clean.
I've had a beard since I was about 16, but I always trim mine fairly well so that it looks neat-if I don't trim it well I don't think it looks good. If I do trim it I look a lot better with it than without it. All the girls I've been with like it, so if they're happy I'm happy. I shampoo my beard just like I do my hair, so it's as clean as any other part of me.
Yeah. I trim mine regularly. Neat and close. Also, when you bathe, You might want to use hair conditioner on/in it and any mustache that goes with it. (Ladies HATE the scratchy beard!) Also, you mentioned working in a factory? It would be safer for you if it were not to get caught in any machinery.
You think so? I've always found it less painful if he grows out a beard, instead of having to get scratched up by stubble every few days! As for comments, I'd assume it depends on who you're around. My fiance has to deal with me telling he should grow it out a bit more, while his mom constantly complains when he shows up with any beard at all... But, she hates to think that her baby boy is 30 years old already (when he shaves, he has such a baby face I feel like a pedaphile, so it's easy for her to not feel so old if he's clean shaven!).
Not if ya give'em a good ol fashioned 'do NOT even think about mucking w/me' look. When all else fails a smile usually works... *g* ... the kind that leads Folks to believe you're on the wrong side of the glass.
haha - sorry - that is a serious point but for some reason made me chuckle.Infact - it could be disastrous on some machinery. You' have to wear a beard-net I dunno - you can't win with girls when it comes to that shaving lark - after a day it's scratchy - so I suppose your'e meant to shave everyday, but what a pain in the ass.Easier to grow the full wizard deal,i reckon
My girlfriend likes my beard - unlike almost every other woman I come across. Most guys don't comment.
For me, its always depended on how fast their hair grows... very fast means they get tha tstubble within minutes of shaving, and my face just gets red and scartched up. If their facial hair doesnt grow that fast, I prefer them without the beard... but Im just not a big fan of most hair (aside from on the head) in general.
yeah i get strange comments all the time, my familys dosent say anything, but people in public give me strange comments, people like store clerks, and just people i pass out in public who ive never even see, theyll say shit, when are you gonna shave that off? Do you like that? EW GROSS! it looks like nut hair! WHy dont you shave? you look like a fucking animal! And sometimes they wont even say anything, sometimes if i make eye contact with people theyll lift their chin up and act like theyre running a razor across their face, i guess its there way of saying you should shave, But thats society for you, these are the same kind of dumb mother fuckers that killed galeo, burned thosounds at the stake, gassed people in ww2, and believed films like reefer madness, so fuck them
good attitude renegade hippie , yes they do hassle you , I had a waist length beard until last december this was a beard of near world beardchampionship standard also very long hair . I dont think you get hassled that much with a short beard but big beards yes you do get people shouting names as they drive past , on the other hand you also get beard groupies who come up to you and want to fondle your beard . some people think its really cool other people hate it , really do it for yourself and to hell with what people think . I got rid of my beard because my dad died and I had to go to his funeral , he used to joke with me about whether i would get rid of it and look smart as he saw it for his funeral , so when he actually died I thought about it , and cut the beard and my hair off and wore a suit , I think he would have found that funny so I dont in anyway regret it .
Many people just don't like beards. The first time I shaved my beard I noticed a huge change in the way people treated me. All of a sudden I was dealt with differently by store clerks, hotel front desks, DMV workers and a slew of other people I would interact with. When I cut my hair shortly thereafter I noticed a whole different type of women would show interest in me. Men who would ignore me in a bar would strike up conversation. And on the other side of it, hippie aquaintences shyed away a bit, thinking I had sold out. Now fifteen years later, after growing my beard and hair back, yes people in public treat me different. Certain types of people are wary and others feel more comfortable. Beards really, really bother some people. A couple of my customers have made close to rude comments. It seems that the longer and bushier the beard the more difficulty you must have doing your job. My father even made a displeased comment and almost lectured about professional appearance. Christ I'm forty and my dad is still worried about the way I look.
lol well ive never met any beard groupies before. Free i would think having a beard would be more common in alaska, with the winters and all, also you mention your customers, do you own a business up there?
renegade, yes beards are much more common up here than other places, yet there is still some prejudice. I run a rural telephone company up here and my customer that has given me the hardest time is the owner of a truck stop 60 miles north of the arctic circle of all places.
It has most definitely come up more than once. As a nursing student and a gay male I have had a gay instructor tell me to my face that he thought the "bearish" "scruffy" look was inappropriate for the job. My beard and hair are washed daily and they are free of food and smoke. It actually offends me at times when people feel free/comfortable enough to say, "You'd look better without the beard." The thought that runs through my mind is, "You'd look better with someone else's head." But... So, I trim the beard and keep it combed and if someone doesn't like it I let him/her know that I had heard the comment and am not really much interested if it's a negative response.
I think men with beards are very good looking. Some of the most beautilful men I have seen have beards.I think people give men with beards a proble ecause they might see it as the man being lazy or some stupid shit like that
