Lately, the only argument I've been hearing for keeping pot illegal is the potency thing, that pot today is much stronger than it was in the 60s and 70s therefore making it more dangerous and its effects on the user and brain different. I've heard wild comparisons such as pot in the 60s and 70s had only about 2%-9% (I've even heard as little as less than 2%) THC while pot today has 10%-20%. There is a certian amount of truth to this, due to new growing techniques and strains pot is somewhat stronger today but the comparisons the DEA and other prohibitionists give sound like an incredible exaggeration. If anything this difference would be beneficial, the higher the potency the less pot a smoker has to smoke to get high, which would be easier on the lungs. In my mind this kind of sounds like the equivalent of comparing beer to vodka, vodka is more potent (higher amount of alcohol per volume) but this does not make it any different in its effects or any more dangerous (unless you drink too much too fast) but I'm not completely sure, I could be wrong on that one. Anyway, this is a question directed towards rangerdanger and other people on this forum that smoked pot in the 60s, 70s or early 80s. Are there any noticible differences in the pot you smoked then and now? Are the effects the exact same or more intense? Does pot seem to be all that much more potent or noticebly so? And if there is a noticible difference does it seem to make it anymore harmful/dangerous/damaging etc.? Please be honest and any other info you can give is more than welcome.

todays techniques are pretty much the same as techniques in the past...
weed has always had the posability to be as potent as it can get now.

    nothing has changed...

the only thing that could of possibly changed is that today MORE people BUY better weed then in the past.... that doesn't mean it didn't exist.

The weed we were mainly scoring in '67 was Acapulco Gold, still one of my Top 3 All-Time Fave's.

    It was potent, believe me.
In the 70's we were getting Columbian Gold. 1/2 joint split between you and your buddy would make you forget where you were, where you were going and what you were gonna do when you got there. So potent yeah.
Also in the 70's was opiated Thai (Thai stick). That shit would way stone you.

Bottom line: there has ALWAYS been good pot and lousy pot. Some of the schwag today is low potency.

The way I look at it--better (more potent) pot means you'll need to smoke less to get to where you wanna be.

Pot use is becomming more and more accepted. More and more often I hear of cops not busting people for simple possession. So the gov't is trying every lie they can, because when pot becomes legal it's gonna cause more changes than you could imagine, but mainly it means less money to the phamicutical industry and breweries, which contribute million$ to anti-pot politicians.

One simple thing everybody can do is register to vote, then check politicians positions on mj decrim, and vote for pro-pot candidates.

Even if what they did claim was true, (which isnt because of what rangerdanger said) That wouldnt be a bad thing. Higher potency just makes you smoke less to get stoned. so its better on the lungs.

It seemed to me that when they ran the tests to compare the weed, they used leaves from back in the day and current bud to make their claim. It's all horseshit science. Scientific error!

New laws kept popping up, saying that possession of less than an ounce, or 1/2 an ounce, or 5 grams or 1 gram was a misdemeanor or an infraction. So naturally the sensible thing to do was to make pot more potent and sell it in smaller quantities.

Yes the pot is more potent today, but there are some things I miss about buying it by the ounce. I miss getting some seeds with it so I could grow my own, instead of having to buy the seeds separately (unless of course the bag had too many damn seeds!) I miss having quantity enough to bake some pot cookies or brownies. I miss finding roaches on the sidewalk when you're out of pot and hard up to get high; nobody throws away their roaches anymore, they're too valuable. For that matter I miss smoking joints, people don't usually smoke it in joints anymore because it's too wasteful!

    Ah, the good old daze....

he said since the 60's.... NOT since 1960....

she just started young....but its still plausible that she would start in her early double digits.
