Ok I got this puppy ... shes 6months old her name is cloey shes a sweet heart ..most of the time .. she gets really crazy shes always pickin a fight with jack my dads german shepard and she randomly bites people ... of course playfully but still it hurts and it gets annoying after awhille. Also since jacks a german shepard he chases are cats and It pisses me off cuz they were here first and they shouldnt be treated that way cloey sees it and does it to .. what should I do? .. lol i really would appreciate some advice thanks Peace <3 katy
Dont let your dog get away with any of that. Especially that random biting of people!!!!!!! It may not hurt now, but it will when she gets older! It also means that she does not have respect for humans. One day when she gets older she is going to sink her teeth into some kids face. Which will mean that your dog will be put to sleep, and you will have a law suit on your hands. If you cannot control your dog, and its getting to the point where she is not listening and annoying you..... than you either need to get on top of obedience, see a dog psychologist, or find her a home where she can be taught how to act right. You do not want a terror on your hands.
Totally agree We have a zero tolerance for our puppy's biting; he's only very young but we are not accepting anything now that we aren't prepared to live with when he's grown. So we'll say 'no biting' really firmly when he does, then ignore him for a bit so he knows we've stopped playing. If he still hyped up and doesn't get the message then he gets 'time out'* until he's calmed down. Also when he does stop we praise him, 'good boy, no more biteing', so he knows what he's done and that he'll get attention by good behaviour. Dogs generally figure these things out quickly. *in a safe puppy-proofed room he can't escape from, generally our hallway.
Some good articles that may help: http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/mindgames.html http://www.flyingdogpress.com/selfpg.html http://www.flyingdogpress.com/probtips.html http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&C=106&A=1701&S= Some dogs will just never be great around cats. Some breeds of dogs (GSDs being one of them) tend to have a high prey drive - the inscinct to chase and catch smll animals. If you have multiple dogs than you also have a pack prey drive situation going on. Most dogs can be taught self control around cats but my general rule of thumb is if your dog chases, your dog may at some point take it further. For me this means cat chasing dogs are never left alone with small animals when no one is home. Have you considered taking an obedience class? It sounds like it would be a good idea to help you get the right start with your puppy
thank you so much for the tips ... I also appreciate the websites and encouragement if anyone has any more suggestions please feel free to drop a line thanks again Peace <3 Katy

I know my little baby I totally agree with you about the training ... I went to this really great local place and they have alot of events for you and your dogs and they are having obedience training so the first time I was gonna do it but I couldnt afford it at the time ... but now I can so I am definitly going to sign up for them as soon as they let me know when its going down.. Cloey and I definitly still need some training
