LOL Squirrel, we all find our little ways of getting around stupid workplace rules! The socks are a cool idea, as I would guess that most employers haven't factored that into their dress codes! Brilliant!
I haven't really found a place i couldn't get a job in kansas and that seems odd considering its suppose to be one of he more conservative states. I even worked for the state legislature as an intern with no problem. I'm getting ready to start in an office, no problem. I'm also a writer and get paid freelance, but that doesn't count no one sees me.
I only have three piercings, my conch, and both lobes. As a telemarketer it's not a big deal, really. Since I've been promoted I work a lot with our corporate members when they come in and I talk to a lot of client service members when they come in. Nobody has ever said anything about my piercings or asked me to take them out. My boss is even ok with me gauging my ears back up to 7/16".
It really bites that the business world is so far behind the times in terms of fashion or expression. I have and expression for this whole scene of corporations trying to tell us what to do with our appearance: They are blaiming the foot because it does not fit in the shoe. Actually, there are plently of jobs that will take you, it is a matter of finding the right places. Ask yourself this question. Sure, you can look at the whole prospect of "Oh I need a good job so I can support myself so I need to do what they say..." OK, but what if you so that, and you get your job and your money. Will that make you happy? Not really, not if you are not being true to yourself. Believe be, I went that route and spent years conforming to this or that in the hope that I would be accepted, and thus secure ... who knows what. It did not work. I was rarely ever happy, and missed out on a lot. So I ditched it all. Much better, thank you. Isn't the whole point of what we stand for to express ourselves and be who we are? Who knows, if enough people did it, eventually the big companies would be left with noone to hire because most everyone has some "shortcomming" according to their square morality. Good. So they go out of business and get taken over by companies that will hire people with nose rings.
I used to work in retail and got moaned at daily about my metal they would make me take them out all the time. For 5 years I had to fight to keep them where they were. My way around it was 'if a custmer complains then ill take them out' and of course noone ever complained. I now work in a bingo hall where the majority of customers are over 50 and noone has a problem with the fact i have metal everywhere. I think it all depends on the kind of work you do and where it is. I went to work today with my septum ring in for the first time ever and i only had 2 bad comments and they were just about it 'spoiling' my looks not about the actual piercing. Even my boss didnt tell me to take it out. Try getting a job with a family run firm or something small they acre less about what you look like or at least thats what i always find. x 0_0 x
I once worked with blue hair and 5 facial piercings, but that was at a college and that is definitly a conducive environment. Otherwise I have defintely lost jobs because of them.
I work in a big store. Technically facial piercings are against our dress code, however I have been really lucky that my managers do not care enough about my piercing. I asked my HR about getting my eyebrow pierced(first piercing), her response was, “We prefer that you don’t, however if you do, we’re not going to fire you.” Currently I have my eyebrow, labret, multiple industrials, and lobes pierced. Some of my other coworkers have other piercings and tattoos as well and so far our store has been pretty cool.
you're luck, tres...can't remember if i posted this above, but my one old boss said take it out or you're gone now to my new nose ring....even though i had covered it with a bandaid and makeup.
Eh, I work at a health food store..as long as we dont come into work naked they really dont give a shit haha.
I live and work in amsterdam and am about to get my third eyebrow piercing. I work in IT and the financial company I work for are cool with it. Some of them may not undrestand but they're cool with it. Being in Holland you're quite protected by good employment law. I think companies can get into trouble if the prejudice over this sort of thing. I think I'm going to start wearing my kilt to work next week ;-)
