Hi I am new here, found these forums while searching for info on Amsterdam. I am going there with a friend 8/20-8/23 and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of where to go, where not to go, what to do, etc... I have a small list of places to go; Van Gogh Museum, Rict(wrong spelling, National Museum) Museum, Hienken tour, and the Weed/Hash Museum. Also many coffee shops and the redlight district. Any info would be great, thanks!
Don't miss Madame Tussaud's wax museum. It's right on Damn square, and before (or after, or both) stop by the Abraxas coffeeshop, which is just around the corner from Madame Tussaud's.
Hey Van Gogh Museum: if I'm correct it's also open on Friday evenings nowadays Rict(wrong spelling, National Museum) Museum: yes, very wrong.. ehhe.. 'rijks museum' Hienken tour: right spelling is Heineken about the wax museum.. the lines are usually pretty long in the tourist season and it's not cheap.. but it's fun to see if you've never been there. Depending on the weather it's also fun to rent a canalbike or take a boat tour, to see the old building from the canals. If you're into history, you should see the 'Anne Frank' house as well.. have fun!
Yeah my spelling was quite off, sry. I was thinking about the wax museum but we have one here in NYC, so if the lines are too long then I wont go. I also want to do the canal bike, but I have a feeling my friend will not want to do that as he gets very lazy when he smokes LOL. And I dont want to pedal his a$$ around the canals. I forgot to add the Ann Frank house to my list, that is a must do for me, along with the 2 museums (art not weed). Any recommendations of coffee shops? Also is it ok to "smoke" outside? If say we are walking down the street or on a canal bike can we "smoke" or will we get into trouble? Same goes for the hotel, we got a smoking room, can we "smoke" there too? The last thing I want to do is get into trouble or offend the locals.
