Simple Question involving Mantles

    how long does a mantle last? is it a one time use? or will it survive a weekend... i've never owned a lantern.. usually just build camp fires...

    Until you jar it or drop the lantern and they break. I've had mantles last 15 years and some only one season. I'm down to one lantern with mantles, used to have 4 or 5. This one uses a propane bottle rather than multifuel, since the seals on those are no longer reliable. I keep an extra set under a strip of tape in the base.

    i stopped using lanterns and switched to oil lamps. no mantels to deal with. plus the oil is cheaper and much more easy to transport.
