i have read that sodium lauryl sulphate kills them, its the main ingrdient in washing up liquid, it penetrates the skin. beware though as this stuff is also used in animal testing to inflame the skin. i've read that taking lysine an (amino acid i think) might help and zinc just for a crazy experiment dab some lemon oil on them and see what gives, i'd be interested to see.
L-Lysine 1,000 mg per day will keep cold sores at bay ;-) if you feel an outbreak coming on, up that dose to 3,000 mg immediately...then do your maintaining 1,000 mg. L-Lysine is in an amino acid that is inhibtor to the herpes simplex virus. You can find it at any health or wellness store. This is great for preventative measures.
