i've been to the chrio twice so far because a) i get to go for free because of my insurance and b) my neck's been stiff. so anyways, the first visit the chiro was surprised that my body did not 'respond' as well as he'd thought it would (i'm young, eat well, in good shape) i guess it didn't really crack or whatever properly. he told me he thought he felt some - get this - 'vice sludge' in between my joints. alright - i might be a bit of a sceptic, but it was clear he was telling me to cut down on whatever partying i might be doing - the thing is, i don't party much at all, so i think maybe he's full of shit. at any rate, i've been watching what i eat very closely. the second visit was much better (according to him). questions to you guys - he told me i'd be in a bit of pain after the second session, because it went well. i was in a bit of pain. is this customary to be in pain (moderate back ache) after an adjustment? do you believe in chiropractors?
I'm skeptical, personally. I would recommend doing a bit more research as I've heard so many concerns about the actual success of chiropractors beyond placebo. I've personally seen one woman who had a chiropractor ruin her life. She was in such a great deal of constant pain that she looked like death warmed over. I'm serious, she was grey and had big bags under her eyes because she couldn't sleep properly because her back was in such constant and tremendous pain. She could barely move. It was a terrible thing to witness. Then there are those that swear by them. I knew a guy who would go to them religiously. I found myself wondering why he would have to keep going back if the chiropractor was actually fixing anything.
there are good chiropractors, and there are quacks that call themselves chiropractors. I have had incredibly good results seeing my chiropractor. If your chiro says you need to keep coming back regularly, if he takes xrays and drives a Lexxus, I'd try to find a different one. Listen to your gut reaction to this chiropractor. Do you get the ickies just talking to him, or do you trust him with your spinal column? there have been times I was sore a day or two after an adjustment, depends on what needed to be done, how long I've been hurting, and how much the muscles were affected by the misalignment. Usually I feel better immediately, though.
