haha... beautiful! Hey, Rat... sorry for completely destroying the serious topic of your thread... How can I make it up to you?
Yeah, we totally hijacked this thread. Still, no amount of political banter can compete with the funny picture posting thread: Come to think of it, this sorta reminds me of something that happened last week...........
haha... those are so funny! The first one is great... Matt is going to beat us to death, though.... Kill the draft!
haha... have you ever been to http://www.Engrish.com? It's so funny... I haven't been there in a while, but I used to spend hours there just laughing like an idiot.
even if i was drafted, i dont think id be able to go to war because of my back. i guess im lucky in that sense. dunno about my boyfriend though... and that frightens me. we'll just have to be good ol' draft dodgers.
Well, I have flat feet... I have absolutely no arches. I've always heard that that would keep you out of the draft, but my grandfather also has flat feet, and he fought in WWII. Who knows?
Hey Rat, Thanks for the information, most of which I was already familar with. I'm just concerned, you and many others claim that you would deal with the abuse of the military if you did actually refuse, but can any of you honestly say that you know for sure you would not just give in? Its the same idea that you are supposed to do for a cop who tries to get you to incriminate yourself or illegally search you. Its a catch 22. I don't know if I could be that strong, without getting so angry that I turn around and kick some ass, which would land me in jail anyway. Just another reason why I cannot in good conscience vote for Kerry.
Sorry 'bout that. It was only a minor derailment, I think we're back on track now. You have to admit those sites are friggin hilarious though.
Well, there is probably a greater chance of Bush bringing the draft back than Kerry. If Kerry wins the election, he's going to have to work with public opinion to an extent in order to win his second term, and since the draft is a rather unpopular idea, he is likely to avoid it. Sure, Kerry DID say he wanted more troops than Bush, but I think that's just political drivel. The public are on Kerry for not being good at protecting our country, saying he wants 10,000 more troops in Iraq than Bush wants makes him look superior. Now, if Bush were to be elected, he can't run again. Therefore, he has little motivation to appease the public, and would therefore be less hesitant to reinstate the draft than Kerry. I don't know what I'd do if the draft came back and I'd have to be drafted. My original plan was to go to Ireland with some relatives, but there are now laws keeping people from becoming citizens unless their parent was born there (the best I've got is a grandmother). I really don't want to sign on as a concientious objector, because I'd still be supporting the war that way. Can you get out of the draft by serving in the peace corps?
I actually do know a guy from Israel (where they have compulsory military service) who got out of serving by telling his superiors that he felt like shooting everyone in his regiment. In Israel, however, this means that it has been impossible for him to get a job, because he has to explain why he isn't serving - but he says he doesn't care and would rather be homeless than be in the Israeli military...
