'cool' ain't happening in TX or OK in the summer; maybe AK way up in the mountains. Pretty sure it was locals that ran over sister NoGuns, the son of the guy who owned the grazing lease on the land & there was no main meadow in TX, there was the lake, Berlin & the Promised Land (Berlin disappeared by the time the Gathering actually started, it was the place across the road where folks waited before they allowed people into the Promised Land) NoGuns was lying on the ground by the lake & the dude came speeding down the lakefront cuz he thought he owned the place & ran over NoGuns. She had been hanging out at the fed road block earlier singing songs of how guns didn't belong in our church, which is where she got the name 'NoGuns'. As far as the TX Gathering; it was actually a trimuph for Rainbow as the court case; Justice William Justice of the TX Supreme Court ruled that Rainbows were guareteed the Right to Gather & Assemble in the National Forest. The lack of water was an issue but overall those who had the courage, all 2000 of us, Omed among the busses that year.
Yea, it was locals who ran over sister (Sarah? Sally?) Noguns, a drunk guy and his nephew. The nephew was driving. I think she made it back on the fourth in time for the circle. She took the name Noguns at either the North Carolina gathering or Pennsylvania where a deputy shot at her for fun while she was walking down a trail. I think she was also one of the Holy Rollers too, that's the bus full of hippies that ran off the road and rolled over several times down a hill, no one was hurt. She use to joke that something bad always happened to her at every gathering. I hope she's still around and doing fine. Wow Hippiestead, we prob met there. A friend of mine taped all the local news coverage of the gathering for me, hope I still have it some where, forgot all about it. Hope it's Texas again.
There's 2 of us at the hippiestead; JuJu & Cinnamon. JuJu was in TX running the It's A Beautiful Day Cafe behind veggie kitchen, bro who owned the big blue MO bus that rolled up by Dallas on the way out of the Gathering. Noticed your in Houston Bohemia; have you checked out the Texas Rainbow chat group on google? If folks start talking heavy TX, the group might get real busy. There's a bit of discussion on AGR about Padre Island but how anyone can have a Gathering without a water source is beyond us.
NoGuns was run over by 2 red necks in a jeep, not the cops, the family chased the jeep & radioed ahead & eventually stopped them & the cops came & dealt with them.
IIRC, there were no east coast gatherings between 1999 and 2005. Maybe the Southeastern US should be given a consideration.
I'll be in Hawaii in Jan! I heard that there's a constant regional thing that goes on over there. If a national was there not many people would show up, even though it would be kickass..lol
im hearing either texas or arkansas. nothing solid tho. i hope its someplace cooler than texas in july. but if it is texas ill c u all there. did some1 mention the southeast? does ne1 remember Talladega, by Heflin alabama. goddess that was a beautiful gathering!
Word around the campfire last I heard was TexArkana - if that is the case, yall wont see me down there. I'm going to work on bringing together the family scattered across the Northern Plains, maybe we'll host a regional in the badlands of western North Dakota. Though I broke down, never making it to this year's gathering, from those who we met with who went this year, as they were heading out mentioned, and I agree, it's time to strengthen our regional families to ultimately bring the global family back to where we should be in the spirit.
