went to see it last weekend and three shows in a row were sold out dying to go this weekend....will let ya know if I do.
saw it during its limited art house theater release: i enjoyed it but not as much as i hoped i would. you could definately tell it was based on a short story because there was no exposition / character development at all. The movie starting wasn't like a book (with an intro) but rather more like you the veiwer opening your eyes and having reality flood in without explanation. this was cool in one sense (seemed to be an interesting way to set up a sequel too) but it was annoying in another sense (during the first hour of the movie you spend your time trying to figure out what is happening because nothing is explained). gotta run post more soon
I saw it and liked it, but at the same time, it was kind of frustrating. I don't exactly know why. A lot of stuff wasn't explained until much later in the movie, so it was confusing.
yeah thats what i was getting at.... not to forget to mention that once it was explained, they ended the movie and all you wanted to know was.....now that I get whats happening lets see where this is going! arrrgghhh
It's not playing here. . and that's odd because we usually get everything the bigger cities get. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I hope it's not as bad as some say, it looks so interesting to me. Very in the same vein as Sin City. Sm**chies! Jacob.
yeah alot of people didn't really like it (i thought it was briliant though) because in the words of some cartoon character (I can't remember which one exactly) "unexpected things make people feel frightened and clever things make people feel stupid."
I thought it was ok. I was expecting much more. Waking Life blows it out of the water, not that they are that alike.
I saw this a few months ago when it first came out on DVD. I enjoyed it, even though I never read the book. To be honest, though, even though I enjoyed it I expected more from Linklater. For one, casting Robert Downey Jr. was a huge mistake. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but his delivery always manages to get under my skin and overtakes whatever movie he's in until it's nothing more than a bunch of Robert Downey Jr. babble (if that makes any sense, which I'm sure it doesn't). Keanu Reeves gives a decent performance though--his monologues in particular are brilliantly delivered. Personally, I never thought he was nearly as bad of an actor as people often say he is. He was great in Thumbsucker and at least the first Matrix movie anyway. Winona Ryder I don't feel too strongly about either way. Woody Harrelson wasn't bad. The rotoscope animation, which I loved in Waking Life, tends to overpower the movie a little. With Waking Life, the animation seemed to match the presentation of the material, whereas A Scanner Darkly is told in a much more traditional way. I don't know, maybe it's just one of those things that takes some getting used to. Good movie either. Like I said, I've come to expect more from Linklater (actually I finally saw Fast Food Nation last night which is great), but it was definitely a good movie.
I actually though Downey Jr. saved the film. all my favorite parts were the meandering, druggy, paranoid conversations. I liked it a lot more than Sin City.
Waking life owned this movie, but i did enjoy it a little bit. I felt like a lot of you did in that the movie was kinda frustrating. It seemed to drone on a bit too with pretty uninteresting plot/lack of details.
the movie didnt get to the theaters here i think but it's been on the rentals for quite some time. I keep reminding myself when im at work to go rent it.. but by the time I get out i always forget.
