Some, or most, or all of you may know who Syd Barrett is, from pink floyd. His death was announced just recently.. and I thought i would Share it with the rest of you. shine on syd barrett. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/11072006/140/pink-floyd-s-syd-barrett-dies.html
saying i felt sad when i heard the news doesn't really describe what i felt like... Shine on you crazy diamond, Syd, and may you find your Interstellar Overdrive, somewhere in the Astronomy Domine...
...and Pink Floyd fans the world over are weeping and gnashing their teeth...despite the fact that Syd Barrett hasn't been seen in public, much less made any music in the last 35 years.
Actually he was seen quite often in public going about his day in Cambridge. What does it matter how long it's been since he made music. People aren't mourning over the fact he's not making more music but the fact he died.
Going about his day? You mean trips to the market while he mumbled to himself? I was being light-hearted. Don't take it personally. Mourn on, you crazy Floyd fans.
i just heard he was my favorite artist of all time (pink floyd favorite band) this is like worse for me than any loser elvis fan from back in the day im super upset
I'd like to hope sombody in the industry still remember about him. He represented a time when an artist could try to express himself and ppl would try to listen at it. Now is the time when musicians sheep around what ppl ask for and ppl sheep around what the industry decides. I'm raged ! Maybe It's wrong, but this is what I am like!
I roasted several bowls while listening to entire album Wish You Were Here. I think I'll probably put Piper on when I go to sleep too.
Although he may be having a cigar at that great gig in the sky, we all know his legend is never gonna die.
my dad just told me about ten minutes ago. i had somehow not heard about this... my chest just kind of tightened up and i was trying not to cry a bit in front of my dad. he's free but goddamn is it weird to think that the man behind all that music is....gone. shine on, syd.
Even though he'd 'dropped out' of the music scene for 35 years or more,it's still shocking to hear he's died aged 60. There was no serious possibility of a reunion of Syd & Pink Floyd - most of the fans knew this from the 1970s onwards. I pause for thought about how impressionable his compositions have been on me throughout the years: - Golden Hair , Astronomy Domain , See Emily Play, Apples & Oranges. These songs were more like: 'fairy tale tone poems'. His stage-act with Pink Floyd was mesmerizing.Has anyone seen the black & white film of him on stage at the UFO Club in 1967 waving his arms up & down against a giant oil-slides backdrop?. His death isn't a loss for pop music because he'd stopped making it but it is sad because he was an original flower-child that seemed to believe that the hippie culture wave of 1967 meant something important to his generation.
