    Have they changed recently??

    I'm so confused.

I was reading through Planned Parenthoods info, because I'm trying to educate myself as much as I can to prevent any future mistakes like what I just went through... and when I was skimming through I noticed something about the morning after pill, and in the column for it, it said you must be at least 18 years old to be perscribed the morning after pill.

    What the fuck?

First of all---WHY??? It is legal for minors to have abortions with parental consent/sometimes without, but it's not fucking legal to prevent an abortion in the first place with the use of the morning after pill or what? That's fucking bogus.

Secondly, when I was 16 years old I used the morning after pill once when a condom broke.... and I didn't have parental consent or anything, they didn't even know. So why the hell does it say you must be 18? Did the law seriously change or what?

I get so fucking irritated about this shit. People want to ban abortion, or at least, strongly urge others to not have an abortion, but then why does it have to be so fucking hard to prevent this kind of shit, especially if the person is a minor?

Yeah, we all wish minors wouldn't have sex and the like, but that's not going to happen.... teenagers have sex, and no one is going to stop them.

If people want to get rid of an abortion this shit needs to be easily accessible, EVEN FOR MINORS....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong or if I misread.... but if I read that correctly, I'm uber pissed. *fumes*

Well it is a prescription, but I didn't have to like, go to a pharmacy or anything like that if that's what you're asking. I just went to the Planned Parenthood clinic, and I had to answer some questions, and then the doctor [OBGYN] gave me the pills. [There is two, each 12 hours apart, which I had to take]

Typically they have everything available for you already at PP clinics. It is still a perscription, just minus all the pharmacy bullcrap. the morning after pill is not, and in THIS state never over-the-counter, and probably never WILL be... so yes, it was a prescription.

damn what is wrong with our country? I guess we all like the smell/sight of dead babies because when we ban abortion and make age limits on the morning after pill we will see more dead babies. You can't force a woman to be a mother if she does not want to be. I know there's adoption, but there are already 1000s of children without families to adopt them. Plus, a lot of pregnant teenagers hide their pregnancy from their parents, so there will be more of these types of girls and then they will kill the baby. So what's more humane? Letting the fetus grow for 9 months, take his/her first breath and then die? Why not allow the woman to have the option of the morning after pill or an abortion. My head goes crazy every time this country passes a law.

    http://ec.princeton.edu/questions/ecconsent.html

This is from the emergency comtraception website- all "clinics that receive public funding (usually ones that provide services to minors for free or at a reduced cost) are required by federal law to provide services to minors without notifying their parents." . I work with survivors of sexual assault in Illinois so I deal with EC somewhat frequently and sometimes with minors and in Illinois, I have never encountered a hospital that would not dispense EC (except Catholic hospitals in which emergency contraception is not even allowed to be mentioned). But as long as you go to Planned Parenthood or another non religious affiliated clinic you should be okay.

When I was underage, (I think I was like 16 or 17) I had to use the "morning after pill"... the condom broke, so I told my mom. She called my doctor at home (because it was after hours) and he wrote out a script it... it was sitting at the pharmacy the next day. So that underage crap is bullshit.

Um my bad, never mind...lol I found what I saw, but I must have just skimmed too quickly through it because it is for ordering emergency contraception ONLINE....

"For a confidential appointment to arrange for emergency contraception at the nearest Planned Parenthood, call toll-free 1-800-230-PLAN. It can sometimes be obtained online with a valid credit card. You need to be 18–40 years old. "

SORRY GIRLS!!!! I should read more carefully next time, before getting fired up.

However, I take that back, I'm still pissed.

I did do research on sterilization [tubal litigation vs. a vasectomy --sorry for any spelling errors] and from what I gathered it is much more difficult for a woman to have tubal litigation performed than a male to have a vasectomy. It said that many places will not offer sterilization to women who are single, do not have kids, or younger, but it said that a man must only be 21 to have a vasectomy done....

How the hell is that fair??

It depends on the Hospital. I work with a lot of hospitals in Northern IL and even Loyola doctors will prescribe the Morning After. BUT, it depends on the doc. No doctor has to prescribe anything he doens't' want to, ask ANY chronic pain patient, trying to get treatment. But, I do know that one of the biggest Catholic Hospitals in Norhtern IL does have docs who will prescibe it. (But the "Abortion Pill" RU 486 may be a differnt story, as Loyola DOES do discreet abortions in dire situations, (I know this for a fact from one of the OBs I know) they don't advertise it.)

I think it matters which doc and nurse you talk to. Also in Il we have a law that pharmacies HAVE TO dispense the Morning After Pill if you have a prescription, or the pharmacy and the pharmacist will lose their license. Good law, if you ask me. (which is one of the reasons I am voting for Rod B. the next election. Everyone in IL who beleives in allowable Choice as well as Health Care for children should do the same. Go ROD!) :)
