    thanks tipo!

hey... did any of you ever play Inherit the Earth??? it's not one of those classic texts or anything, but it's still an old adventure game with some serious earthy-roots :)

all these forest creatures inherit the earth and learn to read and stuff, and they have big earthy festivals... it's so cool :) i honestly don't remember the point of the game! i just remember going to all the different villages, like the ferret village, where they were all artists and skilled in trades, and the village of the boars, where you had to take a mud bath with the chief... the elk village was really noble and stuff.

towards the end, i remember roaming with your buddies (you're a fox btw) to this abandoned human-made place chasing some cloaked animal with the cool blue orb you needed to win the game.

man, the more i think about it, that game rocked so hard.

does anyone know what i'm talking about?

Home of the Underdogs hosts a lot of the old interactive fiction type games.

(it's a site that hosts free shareware/abaondonware games, fun for those of us who remember the old DOS days)

    it was so cool! :)

i was thinking about it last night and was remembering everything about it. it was pretty complex actually. and i think your character was in love with this lady fox too. in fact, that MAY have been what led you on your quest. what's weird though, if i remember correctly, is that the female animals are hot... like, they have boobs and stuff, buuuut, some of them dress kind of like they should be in xena.

    maybe.

    um

anyway, do look for it! that game was SWEET.

If youre looking for modern adventure games, check out dreamfall, or its predecessor, the longest journey

Some of my favorite games of past include Eric the unready, day of the tentacles, maniac mansion, space quest, leisure suite larry, indiana jones and the fate of atlantis, Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist, star trek judgement rites and blade runner.

Its unfortunate that this seems to be a genre of game that has all but disapeared

I LOVE SPACE QUEST! haha. i had all but forgotten about that game. i never played leisure suite, but i know we have it around in an old box of games.

was fate of atlantis a first person?

i remember an indiana jones game that i really liked and then one that was really crappy, imo. the later was first person. there was also a really bad first person King's Quest... it just made me sad lol.

i haven't heard of those others :) i'll check them out. thanks!

that reminds me though, thinking about more modern games...

does anyone know of The Dagger of Amon-Ra? ( i don't remember if that's the spelling)

it scared the hell out of me as a kid, but it was pretty cool too. it was a mystery adventure game where you were a young female journalist :)

oh yes, and i remembered the point of Inherit the Earth... (fyi)!

you and your friends, an elk, a boar, and a ferret were all trying to find this orb that controlled the weather.

the weather was all messed up on earth and the forests were dying, the water was drying up, etc.

anyway, this orb was what determined the weather and you had to save the earth's ecosystems and i BELIEVE save your lady-lover :)

I loved those games! I played Kings Quest, Space Quest was Hilarious! There was also Sam and Max, and Police Quest was intense when I was little....
Kyrandia I thought was funny...That jester cracked me up.

There was also an eco friendly game about a blonde boy that helps save a dolphin. THen they go underwater and save the ocean from pollution etc. It was pretty cool. There was a huge whale, and atlantis...It was pretty neat

oh! sam and max! that was the one... that game FREAKED ME OUT. i keep mentioning my brother on this thread. he was two years older than me and really kind of a techie-geek all his life. most of the games i've played were with him as a kid, or second hand after he'd beat them. however, sam and max was one i never picked up. i would see him playing it and the bunny with his big freaky teeth scared the HELL out me.

i think i know what game you're talking about with the kid and and dolphin, though. weren't there a bunch of fish and jelly fish, and sharp coral that would hurt you if you touched them? i can't remember the name of it though :)

there is tons of them available for free if you have linux. a lot of them are available through 'yum' and 'apt-get' and you could always add more repositories with more text games available.

I used to eagerly await Rainbow magazine each month. They had games that you typed into your Color Computer and saved on cassette. I miss that.

    Infocom!! Now there's a flashback.

I never did finish HitchHikers Guide. I think I had vector plotter troubles. I did play the complete Enchanter trilogy though.

    Ah, good times.

I don't think I agree with the stance that more realisitc graphics kills the imagination though. As a mmorpger, the game is still just a vehicle in which I tell my stories.I'm fortunate enough to get some super sweet pixels to go along with those stories.
