alright, i went about ten pages back and saw no mention in any of the titles... so i was wondering what everyone thought of Jethro Tull? i was never really into them, but then i kept hearing Aqualung, so i poked around and there is SO much more to this band than that song! yet, that song and locomotive breath are the only ones i've ever heard on the radio. i have NEVER heard anyone play the flute like ian anderson! (aside from that scene in anchorman where he's plays that solo and says "thank you aqualung!" lol) anyway, what's the news?
I love tull. I've seen them live in 2003. Ianm Anderson rocks. Other good songs are Teacher, Minstreal in The Gallery, Mother Goose, Wind Up on SUnday, etc. I'd see them live if I were u. They rock.
Tales from the Woods Heavy Horses Two great Albums that never seem to get any airplay. Some of the better stations play Thick as a Brick every now and then.
i really dig Mother Goose... but some of the instrumental stuff is pretty cool too. i feel like the whole band is a little bit undersung. i would like to hear them more on some of the local classic rock stations.
"Velvet green" and "Too old to rock'n'roll, too young to die" my fav by far... I get chills up and down my spine....
I've always loved Jethro Tull. I've been listening to their music on & off for a year or so. Before that, I'd hear some of their songs on the radio, but had no idea it was them. For instance "Live In The Past" is a song I've heard for years. But I thought this song was done by the Moody Blues or something. It's nice to know that Jethro Tull did this song because it makes me have more respect for them. What do you guys think of this song? I love `Aqualung` so much, `Cross Eyed Mary` and `Wind Up` are so good. I also love `THe whistler`, `Songs From The Wood` and `Too Old...` There are no words to describe `Thich as A Brick`, its simply amazing. Genius
Never has had any decent air time going back to Year One. Favs include (exclusive of best ofs): Stand Up Benefit Aqualung Thick as a Brick A Passion Play There should be at least one Tull thread buried somewhere back there...
Jethro Tull rocks one of rocks most under rated acts. Of course I like Aqualung and Locomotive Breath. But also Thick as a Brick (long version) and We Used to Know off the album Stand Up.
If you want to hear their roots, listen to the This Was and the Stand Up albums/cds. By the way, they're awesome live, much harder and heavier than on the albums, far more jamming than you'd expect. Yes, Jethro Tull the person is dead and has been for a very long time. He was an early 18th C farmer from Berkshire who invented an improved seed drill for grain crops. "Jethro Tull" the group was named for him. Ian Anderson is the flutist and lead singer, and there have been for years rumors that he owned the group wholly and alone, with the band members being hired by him. Yep, one of the earliest "corporate rock" groups, Bachmann-Turner Overdrive eat your hearts out.
Jethro Tull would have to be my favorite band. I have all their CDs up until more recent recordings. Fav song would probably have to be Aqualung, Bouree or Look Into The Sun.
