So it seems as if I caught the Rainbow plague. I caught a head cold from the Rainbow Gathering. Anyone suffering from a cold after the gathering?
haha I cought a sinus infection, it started my 3rd day there... it started with a throat tickle..... I keep a supply of antibiotics at home though almost gone now... Mike...
Hubby got the flu the day after we left. High temp, diarrhea, vomiting and massive headache. I sure hope others aren't suffering the way he is.
I got laryngitis on the way up, and then started coughing and all kinds of icky stuff now, a friend I went with got pretty sick too, fever and some other junk. major bummer, what happened?
How weird. We caught the Rainbow Healing. The sister I was traveling with has fybromyalgia. No trace of her everyday nausea and aches for 5 days. On the 5th day she noticed, so the 6th day she had her 'normal' symptoms. She must have walked 60 miles in our 9 days. She usually hangs out on the sofa. My daughter had a sore throat when we arrived. We picked some of the yarrow near her tent (association) and made her some fresh tea. Problem solved. Always travel with a tea ball! Thanks to the delightful Lone Walker at A Camp who told us about the yarrow for sore throats. .. Previously only used it for mosquito repellant. All that mountain air, lovin', and meme & energy tradin' suits the immune system. Did I mention food made with love? :*) Holy!
Even if the kitchens are super super careful not to touch serving spoons and such to our bowls and plates. Passing pipes and Joints wil spread it just as fast... Mike...
i didn't get sick at all, but my lips for sooo sunburnt~~ it was so much worse then chapped lips,, the smile restriction was optimal =P just, sunnburnttt~~ but, aint stop me form having a great time =) definitely very healing =)
I'm starting to feel better anyways. My nose is just stuffed up. Yeah the passing of bowls or hitting the bowl tree could have been how I got sick. BTW, the bowl tree was located right next to "Shut up and eat it" kichen, which was conventently right next to my tent!
I've found homeopathic remedies useful in boosting immune systems and in treating colds, flu and diarrhea.
A lot of the time the cold symptoms have a lot to do with the pine pollens & the smoke from burning pine. changes from a person's regular diet can easily cause upset stomach & diarrhea. Altitude sickness can also cause many of theses symptoms if you're not used to being in the mountains. Most of the time the symptoms go away in a week or so. Homeopathic stuff can speed up recovery; so can vitamin C and echinachea. If vomiting & diarrhea last longer than 3 or 4 days, then it would be a good idea to see a doctor cuz if live water isn't boiled long enough it can have all sorts of 'nastys'.
The water was great up there, hippiestead. I didn't hear of any~one~ getting sick. Family was tapped right into the springs with Katydyn filters. Did hear that we taxed the spring a bit and that water pressure was low at one point. Did hear, maybe rb rumor, that the FS was preventing our ability to run water lines early on. There were many springs. Yer right about the smoke though! Can give ya a nasty cough. Also folks smoke more cigarettes than they think. Well, someone has to keep Nic At Night Satellite employed. Nic at Night has a new schpeel: "There ain't no city like gen-er-AW-city! There ain't no nation like a DOE-nation!" Well, it was new to me. I haven't been home in 3 years. One night I passed a pretty tired Nic. He said: "Nic at Night. You know the rap..."
Sometimes folks have minor stomach problems just from a change in water systems even if there aren't 'nastys'; we were just passing a basic CALM rap to whoever it was who was having those problems but thanks for passing the word on the filters! the Rainbow water crew get better with each year! Did anyone see Miss Pixie from Nic at Nite?
I'm pretty sure I saw Miss Pixie because I talked to several of those people, but I'm bad with names and need a picture to really say if i did or not. I'm allergic to pine trees, so this could be the root of the plague. I brought allergy meds with me, but damn CO trees are intense!
we remember CO '92 and the trees plus altitude made for a couple of visits to TC for homeopathics Miss Pixie would have likely had a big black dog with her
My boyfriend and I both got really really sick at the gathering, even though all our water was filtered and we ate for the most part just at kitchens... no one else with us got sick. I puked at CALM in front of everyone....twice. I just kept throwing up and throwing up, all this yellow rice from Krishna. The food doesn't even sound good when I think about it now, even though it was wonderful going down.. hehe I have a bit of a sinus problem, lots of snot and runny nose. Everyone else with me who went was fine though, I always get that at gatherings though. I should learn to boost my immune system prior.
I didn't puke at all, but i have the sinus/coughing problem. My problem was that I didn't eat enough and I'm allergic to pine trees. These two factors weakened my immune system. I'm feeling better now, but not completely better. At gatherings everyone shares germs. From eatting the food to sharing bowls. It will happen, but it's worth it because I had an amazing time.
i agree with what someone above said - i think the sharing joints inevitably made people spread germs. with glass, perhaps there's a chance if you wish to partake in the socially awkward task of flaming the front - but i was super cautious with that stuff - imagine the yuck shared amongst so many people with those huge spliffs. better to roll just for yourself. i avoided all illness - other than those notorious chapped lips - and got very little sleep - but boosted my wellness for SURE at those hot springs afterward - strawberry hill. anyone experience those wonderful springs?
THOSE CHAPPED LIPS GOT ME GOOD!! hahahahha chapped lips and all (not sick at all though) we swung by some ponds on our way back to denver,, i dont know if they were the strawberry springs though ~~ sounds nice though =)
It's not important whether you eat to live or live to eat. What is important is to laugh while you are eating. It aids in digestion.
