What an interesting unconscious thing we do! I've been sewing cushions for a rocking chair that my mother nursed me in and doing all sorts of other such things, and couldn't for the life of me figure out WHY I suddenly felt compelled to do such a thing.

When I got out my father's power sander and sanded 5 bookshelves (i have a book problem..i read too much) and then repainted them a chocolate brown, my Mom's friend finally told me I was "nesting".... although she hadn't seen/heard of a women whose nesting led her to use power tools this late in her pregnancy before.. hahah.

So what did you all do when you were "nesting"? Please do share to reassure me that i am not a hormonal freak!

LOL! I washed and rewashed all of my diapers and folded and refolded them. And I baked. I made like 12 loaves of bread the week before Danny was born. I cleaned my refridgerater, and I did useless things like sweeping my deck. Pregnancy is a wonderful thing!

Its good to hear I am not the only one! I am such a "newbie" when it comes to these types of things... totally ignorant when it comes to the non-physical side of pregnancy.

My husband will FINALLY get to Canada (from Ohio) on the 30-31 of July. We get to move into our own place on the 1st of August. I am due the 19th of August. haha.. I can only imagine the hardcore nesting I will be doing once we actually move in!!

Its funny after reading your post I started thinking about nesting. I never really nested with my second, I think because he was born so early I hadn't had a chance to nest. So now I'm nesting! Isn't that weird? I have been going crazy making diaper covers and learning to knit to make wool soakers. And cleaning and baking. LOL maybe I'm just naturally crazy.

BTW - icedtea - are you planning on using cloth diapers? I know you are an amazing knitter, you should knit yourself some soakers! They are expensive to buy, but relativly (i think) easy to make. Just a thought :)

nesting with sky, i was more or less eternally cleaning the kitchen. clean the fridge, mop the floor, clean the stovetop, REPEAT. and she was three weeks early, good thing i guess...

oh, and my husband suddenly became odsessed with decorating the interior of our apartment.
it was actually very sweet, and funny!

I am planning on using cloth diapers... but am rather at a loss as to how to get them. I think there is a diaper service in a city thats about an hour away, but do services ususally let you use their diapers without the actual "service" part? I also saw some on the net... but am thinking of just sewing some myself... i mean, they can't be that hard, eh?

good idea about the soakers though.. and thanks for the compliment!

i remember when i was cleaning and organizing and reorganizing and getting all the baby clothes out and washing and rewashing and all that good stuff. My fiancee yelled at me each time i went to go and clean he would yell at me (literally) to stop and kept telling me that " i shouldnt be wasting my time cleaning everything what if i have a still birth then i would have done all this for nothing if i didnt have a still birth there will be plenty of time to do all of these things when i get back from the hospital cuz my mom will be here to help with the cleaning and cooking and bla bla bla."
i was about 30 weeks pregnant when i just gave up on having anything in order or cleaned (through out my pregnancy we moved 2 but ended up at the same place we were originally in). And when shane's mom moved in she was too sick to do a damn thing so i ended up on not only trying to get thing organized and clean and take care of a newborn but i had to help shanes mom with her unpacking. my god that was the worst 6 months of my life.

I found some crochet and knit patterns for soakers for you
    http://www.borntolove.com/pattern.html

this is for a diaper liner to go inside
    http://www.knitlist.com/01gift/diaper-liner.htm
this is for making your own daipers
    http://www.geocities.com/myfreediaperpattern/
http://www.geocities.com/myfreediaperpattern/ (i really like this one)

you can also make your own diapers by using recieving blankets to make prefolds. I'm trying to remember the exact measurements, but it's something like 11'' by 20'' and use the remaining material for the liner.

now, on to the nesting part...
I did this the whole pregnancy, lol
    I remember one incident vividly...
I was getting ready to get into the shower when I noticed a spot on the tub...
So I walked out to go get the cleaners and proceeded to scrub down the bathroom. Cody walks in without me noticing to find me bent over the tub totally naked srubbing like a mad woman.
Basically, everything had to be clean. I was vacuming and washing the floors and cleaning the bathrooms at least every 2 days....that might explain why I didn't come on here much around my 6,7 and 8 months, lol
Everyone was telling me to slow down, but it was like I had magnified eyes and could see ANYTHING!
Now that I think of it, I really miss it, lol, everything was so clean.
I'm still cleaner than I was before I had Leane...I was just too lazy before, and we had so much junk, I never knew where to start...but now things stay realitivly tidy...

fallenfairy-i'm sorry to hear things were so tough for those first 6 months (((hugs)))

I didn't really nest before Moire was born. I did get on my hands and knees to scrub the kitchen floor with a small plastic scrubby the night before I went into labour. But when she was about a week old, Brian went to work. And while he was gone and Moire was asleep, I scrubbed the bathroom, kitchen, and rearranged the bedroom (not a good idea when you're still bleeding post-partum)...

I cleaned a little more than I usually do, (and noticed drt, for like, the only times in my life, otherwise my dh says I have the "Male inability to see dirt" (an, unfortunately, ability he DOES have, :( ) But, I cook and cook and cook and cook. EVERYBODY in the house, from my dh, kids, neighbors, dogs and even the fish get fat when I am pregnant. I have to feed everybody!

The day I went into labor with Moon, I went down into the basement to get something out of the freezer, and realized that Bear had put a bedframe against the wall, and unplugged the freezer! All the food was defrosting, so I ran up and down the stairs about a hundred times (good thing it happened when I was done with bedrest!) and cooked about 10 meals, all at once. I kept stopping, for the contractions, and my mom was there and she's going, "Maggie, are you in labor? Maggie, honey, go lay down." Shit, I had been laying down for 5 months, I ignored her (and went and hid in a different room when the contractions were hitting) and just kept cooking. Finally, Bear came home and we had a big ass pot roast for dinner, and my mom is going "Maggie, you may be in labor, should you be eating SO much?" (Hey, the first time, not only did they not let me eat in labor (althoiugh I sneaked some food anyway) but, they made me wait several days after the section (which was after 3 days of labor) to let me eat. "I'M EATING NOW!!!!" Bear backed me up, and I ate like a pig. LOL!

With my other kids, I baked and cooked and did a lot of baby clothes folding and rearranging ect. With Sage, almost everything was new (she was the surprise baby) and I was so nervous, because of the preterm labors, I kept all the boxes and reciepts for everything, until she was about a year old. Boy, my family ate well when I was pregnant.

    :)

Haha. I think I have been nesting since the day I got pregnant. And I think it's contagious. I painted the entire interior of our house, yes it's bad in my 1st trimester. My husband is so tired of all my projects, finish the deck, repair the roof, refinish the floors, remodel the bathroom, paint the babys room, pressure wash the drive way...next is the landscaping I have some shrubs I want moved. Nesting is fun not for others though haha.

Hahaha, I was an extreme nester like u icedtea(I think people who enjoy extreme sports or crafting move onto extreme nesting during pregnancy)...I painted a room, I was building stuff, moving furniture around, I remember going in the attic when I was pregnant with Croix to bring furniture down I wasn't using, also while pregnant with Croix I re-did a whole vw bus... jeez, with Noah it was a school bus, with Riley I was working at a bakery...I took to cleaning everything and drove everyone nuts... cleaned the house like a maniac all 3 times...

I just remembered about our furniture. I went nuts buying furniture. I don't know why. I sat there all pregnant and stuff building dressers, desks, anything I could get my hands on.
I also went craft-happy. Lots of blankies got crocheted, clothes sewn and jewlery made, lol
