I did it! It took me two days but I did it! 3 metres of flimsy fabric into half a metre of gathered hell (the bottom tier anyway)! It didn’t help that my machine has been playing up something rotten, so after calling it all the nasty names under the sun it finally came through in the end. Mind you, each stitch was sewn so slowly me a bloody hour to do the bottom tier – just to do one tier!?! (insert mental image of girl stomping foot and shaking fist!)

And now that I have finished top and skirt I come to this conclusion – I look like I’m wearing a bloody mermaid costume!

Anyway, here’s the final outcome… (I also posted this on Craftster so apologies if you're seeing it again)

very cute outfit, and oh how I can relate to your woes! I'm sure everyone can, lol They sure a re fun to hear about, though!
Um, if you dont' mind me asking...how do you gather? I created a thread about this a while back, but I'm still confused....I wanted to make one of those 3tierd skirts (now not too sure, lol) and I don't have a clue how to gather the fabric....

Kirstyn - Here's a drawing I quickly did in MSpaint, please excuse the complete crappiness of it, hope it helps...

Oh and don't let my experience stop you from making a tiered skirt! I'll be using WAY less fabric next time and the other two tiers were easy ;)

Another easy way to gather is to zig zag over a string, without catching it in your stitches, then just pull the string.

A good formula for making tiered skirts is to make each tier 1 1/2 times the width of one before it. [IMG]

An MS Paint example with random numbers.....

    thanks for all the help!
I was worries that the top tiers would gether too much...if that makes any sence..like it wouldn't have an even flow. But i guess if that works, I'll do it.
thanks for the diagrams, too, they really helped!

Just make it so the top tier fits you nicely, and then do the 1 1/2 formula. :)
