I just finished In Watermelon Sugar. What do you think of this guy? Kind of a tripped-out Ray Bradbury? Kind of a hippie sci-fi writer?
"Trout Fishing in America" was his best. He was an original beatnik, died a suicide, and died drunk. He could some write, though-- he was one of the best. I miss his cool writing,I
i'm sure theres a thread about him already.. i can't seem to find it i've read most everything he's written.
Brautigan was wonderful. "Trout Fishing in America" and "A Confederate General from Big Sur" are classics. When he died author Thomas McGuane remembered him as "a skinny hippie with beautiful manners." What a great tribute.
a skinny hippie with beautiful manners that's great i love richard brautigan, i have no idea why some people dismiss him as simply "funny" or "commercial", could be because nobody can really deciphre a book like Trout Fishing so they go on believing it's nonsense
It's sometimes really difficult to deciphre his texts... it needs a lot of time. I've read many of his poems. There are very good ones among them, but there are also some I don't like.
Brautigan wrote some really insightful and funny shit. He really saw what was going on around him, understood people and the world, and knew just how to put it down on the page.
hehe.. i just finished "watermelon sugar" .. was odd like all his stuff and as always it left me craving more.
Man, I haven't read Brautigan in million years, must be time to check him out again. It's so groovy to see young kids who can still dig and relate to his works.
