k, I probably messed this up by buying that jarred food at first (it was still organic), but now that I have been making more and more of Leane's food at home, she's not eating it. Yesterday, I steamed some peas and mashed them up with this electric baby food masher that my mom bought years ago. It mashed it up better than the blender (which I blew up the other day:eek: ), but there were still some tiny little chunks in it. I think that it's the texture thing that's bothering her, but I don't know what to do about it.
Like with bananas; she loves them in the jars, but when I mash them up at home, she won't eat them...or she'll have a couple bites, and no more.
I'm not sure what to do. I prefer to make my own food, but she's not eating it....what are some good foods to get her off on a little better of a start?

I'll try the over cooking thing :)
She's a little over 9 months old now.
I'll try offering her the same things...i've read in some places that if babies don't like something, to just not bother and move onto something else...but that doesn't appear to be working....

What I mean is not to force her :)) obviously) but maybe try the same thing the next day or the day after. Basically, just because a baby doesn't like a food the first, second, or third time, doesn't mean they won't like it the fourth.....they may need some time to adjust. 9 months is very little still!!!! Its ok if she doesn't like a lot of foods! Danny didn't eat much food at that age. I would offer it to him everyday, but he mostly refused. Now he's a great eater! His favorite foods are blueberries, pumpkin-oatmeal pancakes, applesauce, and corn on the cob (he calls it "bob"LOL).

If the texture is too thick or chunky, you could try adding a little water to bring it to a more pleasing consistancy. Skye loves sweet potatoes and yams. Squash is another good one. I hope that it works for you, it takes a lot of patience sometimes. I try to make eating really fun for my son (hehehe that ryhmes, I'm a dork). Playing little games and making noises at him when he takes a bite. My son will eat about anything I give him though, haven't had much of a problem yet

i had one kid liked texture, wouldn't eat pureed mush to save her life. My other kid wouldn't eat anything that wasn't smooth and runny... so I bought a food processor just so I could puree her food better than the food chopper I used with my first child. Just add more water, it will puree smoother that way. Try adding a bit of salt, too. Contrary to popular belief, kids do like flavor! My little one will eat hummus with a spoon (and I put lots of curry spices in my hummus).

    thanks for all the advice!
Actually, I should have mentioned that sweet potatoes are one thing that she definately loves homemade ;)
I've added so much water before that her food was so liquidy, i couldn't keep it on the spoon....
smilingmama- yeah, i got what you meant ;) lol, I wasn't thinking that you were telling me to shove it in her face or anything lol
Last night, I actually gave her some peas that weren't pureed, but so small she wouldn't choke on them and she had a ball, and actually ate a bunch!!! I think she just prefers to feed herself...I'm gunna try bananas next.

NEW QUESTION: I'm just wondering outta curiosity here, how long do you puree kid's foods? A friend of mine has a 14 month old, and he eats everything whole.

Some people NEVER puree their kids food, it totally depends on what you feel comfortable with and what your baby likes. Once she figues out how to eat with her fingers she might hate pureed food you never really know.....

i think that's what may be happening, she really only likes a few select things pureed

we did both jarred organics and made our own bc we couldn't get a good variety of vegetarian foods. skylie loved the ovacado! we also mixed it with egg later down the road. she hated peas, but whole she chows them down. we started her on chunkier foods a little earlier, and now she likes alot of really healthy food. (asparigus is her favorite [okay, she's a little wierd, but it's a good wierd!])

i think that sooner or later, they get used to everything, it just takes some trial and error. and thier tastes change and evolve, so try stuff again.

I'm just afraif of offerning her something that she's really not ready for yet and she chokes on it or something. I mean, yeah, use my common sence here, but I'm also thinking that I'm still going to be giving her pureed foods when she's 24 months old...

why not use the cool mesh food-bag thing to introduce her to the flavour first, and then when you see which flavours she prefers, offer it in pureed form or with some texture?

    those food-bags rock!

same here rainbow! Danny started eating "regular" food within a month or so of started pureed foods (he didn't start solids until he was almost a year though....)

I'm probably going to get flamed for saying this, but we have never really avoided certain foods (such as carrots, etc) because of choking, IMO thats what a gag reflex is for! Thats just us though, I'm not saying that will work for everyone.
