since this is really one of the only boards I post in...

    I'm offically registered for college!!!!!!!
I went in for my placement tests to upgrade my highschool courses last week, and found out that I placed at a 30-level english and 30 level Social Studies. I'm having to start the math and science courses from grade 10 levels again, because i forgot bascially all of it :& ....SOOO, I have 2 years of upgrading ahead of me, then 4 years of University to get my BScN, and I've been talking with the University about taking a course in Lactation Consulting. Not to be an actual lactation consultant (though that would be something I'm interested in looking into later on), but there are nurses who can work with an LC and be certified to give out some help with minor problems.
I'm so excited, especially since there are soooo many women unhappy with the experiences they have during their labours and postpartum periods, and i want so badily to help make their experiences better.
Last year at this time, I was writing posts on here about being stuck in a rutty apartment, Cody working a dead-end job and I being miserable! It feels sooooo good to finally have my life in order now!:D

Yay, kirsten! I'm so happy for you! Isn't it great to look back and realize that you are making the changes that you've soooo longed for?

    thanks!
Yeah, it's great to have all the things I've been wishing for right at my finger tips. I really do owe it all to Leane! If it weren't for her, I wouldn't know what to do with my like (it was being pregnant that made me want to get into health care), and the same goes for Cody! We feel so great now! :D It's such a change to finally feel in control instead of just 'going with the flow!'

Congratulations, hon! I'm so glad to see that you're so motivated by and for your daughter!

Just remember to take it easy. Burn out happens VERY easily in college without the added responsibility of home and family. Remember that housework can wait. Your baby and husband come first and then HOMEwork. :D

I'm feeling something similar now that Moire's born. I was actually in college, but burnt out after only one year in an actual University. Now I'm wanting to go to school, change my major to a BSRN *just like you* and be a IBCLC or a midwife.

Hey...maybe we can go into practice together....;)

THats so funny - I was in nursing school when I got pregnant! I was so relieved to have an "excuse" to drop out! I'm so grateful that there are people out there who are nurses and other health care professions - but I'm not one of them!!! It's definitly not for me - I'm so happy for you both (kirstyn and hippyfreek)!

We just relocated this winter to a new state so I"m waiting to finish school until I'm a resident, because University of New Hampshire is a very expensive school, but the in-state tuition is a LOT cheaper.....I'm jealous of you going to school this fall!

College isn't easy, but that peice of paper you get at the end will open up a lot more oppertunities for you. I wish you the best of luck. I know there are a lot of days when I feel like not showing up, or quitting all together, but I keep telling myself that "I'm doing this to give Skye a future". It's not that the classes are hard or anything (don't get me wrong, they're not easy, an I am learning a lot), I just feel like they are eating my whole summer and a lot of my family time. It will all pay off in the long run, I wish the best for you and your family. Congradulations

lol, we can call it, "hippie midwifery," [IMG]
My dream is to be a midwife, but since I want to have roughly about 8 more kids [IMG] I'm going to wait until they're grown up. I want to be there for them while they're growing up, working part time as a nurse. Plus, as it stands right now, although midwives are allowed to work in 3 of the health regions in Alberta, there is no school here that will teach them, so hopefully by that time, the university will allow the program, or we have to move one province over to BC (which I kinda wanted to do anyway lol )
Yeah, I'm a little nervous about the burn out thing, especially since cody is in college with me and going for the engineering course at the same university. [IMG]

I absolutly love BC, Leane and I are actually flying to Sicamous (don't know if you've ever heard of it, it's by Kelowna and Kamloops and stuff) in 5 days!!!! We're gunna be there for a month, and I can't wait!
The Univertity of British Columbia in Vancouver is where I was looking into taking the course from...a little scared to live in Vancouver, though, not only are the houses there currently going for $1 000 000 for a simple 2 bedroom house, but it's so big compared to our little Edmonton, lol

thanks again to everyone for the kind words! :D
