OHHH, now I get it. Well, if that's how it is, then here is my small list to being a stereotypical hippie: 1. Do drugs that aren't chemical based, particularly marijuana and hallucinogens (mushrooms, peyote) 2. Wear tie dye clothing, self made sandals, and anything made from hemp 3. Refuse to work anywhere but on your commune 4. Don't pay taxes 5. Have a lot of sex 6. Listen to 60's and 70's music, even if it is crap, particularly The Grateful Dead 7. Talk about peace all the time, and a world where everyone got along 8. Don't go one day without quoting John Lennon's overused and irritating (not to mention wrong) quote "All you need is love" 9. Share your weed with me 10. Take part in protests over anything liberal 11. Don't trust the government 12. Take my advice Well, that's just a little bit of Sunshine Child's article "How to be a Hippie Cause Nothing Is Better Than Unoriginality", feel free to add / edit as you deem fit hippies!
ok right now, i don't see anything wrong with stereotypes. wrong is a bullshit lie, it's just a different truth you can't accept. sorry but i'm high, and posting about how your reality is only tiny pinprick in infinity, which is what real hippies do.
Well maybe things have changed, but in the 60's you didn't have to do anything to be a "hippie". We didn't even consider ourselves hippies. We just considered ourselves people, children of Mother Earth, free spirits. We didn't worry if we were hippies or not, we worried about sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
There seriously needs to be a sticky thread about this in this forum. Just so we stop getting these repeat threads. Kid, it doesn't take anything to "be a hippie". Just be yourself and do what you want to do. Don't follow stereotypes, as they will make you a shallow person.
the term hip comes from the opium dens of the "wild west" in the 1800s. when someone asked another if they were hip they were asking if they smoked opium, as it was common to lie on ones side in teh opium den to avoid choking on ones own drool or vomit whilst chasing the dragon. the meaning has since transformed over the years
just follow your own path, don't tag along behind others. because who knows, maybe they'll come to a fork in the road and choose the path opposite of what you want. will you keep following them, or continue by yourself?
that may have been where the term hip came from but i read some where that hippies was kinda of a sarcastic title give to the flower chidren by the beatniks. (ANOTHER LABEL) We are what we are
