Hey, not a raw fooder, but I see the definate benefits. I recently dug out my boyfriends juicer and I make a vegetable or fruit juice once a day, that's a sure way to get a good percentage of the raw foods your body needs and craves.

Personally, I don't have enough money to go all raw food but it would be a great cleanse to do it for a week or so.

Are you a raw fooder, or are you thinking about it?

We-elll... Becky, you know I tried it out for a while, it's just a TON of work and planning, and I stopped getting my period and losing weight too quick(even though I was eating lots of coconut, bananas, seeds, etc) , so I stopped. I admit, I felt a ton better in regards to energy and whatnot, but I didn't want to risk my chance of kids or getting really underweight. But there are definitely benefits in it too, it just wasn't for me.

Oh, and Shambala... You can still eat brown rice on a raw food diet :D.. you just gotta soak it for a couple days.

Raw foodism is what actually started my vegetarian path again for me. I read about it in a magazine & decided to give it go but the transition from omni to raw foodist was a little hard on my delicate stomach! So I went veggie instead, and as I had thought about going veggie again for a long time it worked out for the best :)
I'm vegan now & have toyed with the idea of going raw again, but as I make all the meals at home I feel it might a bit too hard for my husband!

I'd go raw for like a week, then I'd probably break down and run to the store to buy ingredients to make vegan pizza. I have replaced breakfast with a small glass of Arthur's green energy and organic carrot juice.

I was a raw foodist for quite a while. I loved how it made me feel and how easy everything was to make (for the most part), and I loved the thought of eating truly sustainably and package free. unfortunately, winters became to hard for me, and I had to start eating hot food again; I also disliked the social aspects of it, as I found I was ostracized for what I ate, not to mention the fact that I could not go out with friends almost anywhere and get a decent meal. I think it's a wonderful way to live, but a very difficult lifestyle.

Thanks! :) I still want to eat yogurt and quiona, potatoes, yams and all that stuff so I don't want to go 100 percent raw, just enough for my skin to look heathly, my menstural crams to go away and my mind to be a little clearer.

Did it help with pms, weight gain and dark circles? I need to change. I am a very healthy eater, get a lot of exercise and I look like crap still. I always look so tired and run-down. At 25 I shouldn't have to wear concealer and put eye cream on;ya know?

In the yoga teacher training I did, we did 100% raw foods during our retreats... it was the only way to stay energized and keep up all the yoga and breathwork, physically, mentally, and spiritually, it is very cleansing and balancing.

It can be difficult to find the exact thing that works for you, it can be a shock to a body because our bodies are full of so many unpure things. I think it's worth it to find out how to make a raw diet work for you... the best way to be a raw foodist for cheap is to have a garden, that's makes it really easy... right now I don't have a garden and can barely get to a grocery store so it's not happening. There is so much diversity and so many possibilities with a raw diet, but it's just like switching to vegetarian from meat eating, it can be daunting, it takes time to find out what works... and I don't know if 100% raw 24/7 will ever work for me or even be ideal, but when I get to a more suitable situation I am going to eat as much raw as I can. At least doing like 2 weeks raw every month, that's very doable... winters can be rough though, we're also emotionally addicted to cooked foods, so it can be very tough to transition, but it's totally worth it, methinks.

I grew up vegan and ate poultry for a year last year at the advice of friends and my doctor (I had anemia and was sick). I ate all raw yesterday and this morning am having a hard time-because I am a coffee drinking. I got a latte and a raw blueberry breakfast bar with soaked oats and all that stuff.

We have a huge garden and I love farmers markets. The hardest part for me is going to be self-control. I want to be about 80 percent raw I think...after doing some research and writting down what I cannot live without I think 80 percent is realistic.
I have just been so mean to my body and need to do something to get my physical and emotonal health back.
Did you feel hungry or have to eat more often? Yesterday I was hungry every couple of hours.

so, something weird just happened. I had a very bad job interview, which afterwards I went to the juice bar and drank 16 ounces of juiced kale, spinach and celery. I came home and as I sit here now I realize I am calm and I should not be calm. I had a terrible day. I am not even calm when I have great days. I am wondering if theis is my change in diet taking effect...but then I am questioning that because logically I know it is too soon. But I think the calmness is being derived from something in my body, telling me I am okay now, I am going to be healthy and not self-abusing any longer, that I am not going to listen to people and allow them to convince me to eat aniamls, which morally I know is so wrong. For once I feel in control of my health, my mind and my spirit and I feel for the first time in my life purely beautiful-inside and out.

Hey I'm a raw foodist of almost a year now and I will be the first to say that green juice is a deeply calming beverage to ingest. Nothing will soak your nerves in the minerals they've been craving for years quicker than that will. If you google-video or youtube "Juiceman" Jay Kordich, you can find a video called "Parsley juice gets you high" Lol, kind of a funny video, but he talks about how potent green juice is in it.

Of course consuming light raw food can bring about that kind of peace too. I always feel similar to the way you described when fasting and eating lighter. My body gets to relax and rest and I ususally feel pretty relaxed and calm then, which is always a really nice feeling. But green juice of any kind def. contributes to a super calm state of being, without having to fast..

As for feeling hungry all the time, I personally don't...but I eat a diet that is richer in fat that almost anyone I know probably. Oils, chocolate, nuts and seeds, I eat a loot of fatty food and I always feel very satiated...too much probably.

Some raw fooders tend to go higher on vegetables and fruits which is probably a good idea, so they might have more of a time feeling full if they are accustomed to heavier SAD(Standard american diet)foods.

Vegetables are more filling than fruits in my experience, because they are body-builders and they take longer to burn/assimilate...Where as fruit is a simple sugar that your body can burn in no time.

Some fruits burn quicker than others though, but some fruits can be really fatty and filling(but still very healthy). Avocado is fatty and will keep you full for a long time, and it is hard for most people to even eat more than one good sized avocado. Olives, durians, and (young)coconuts are the same way. I could eat durian-cacao- and coconut for breakfast and not have to eat until dinner easily. Berries seem to keep me full for longer periods of time than say a seedless orange does too. When I get oranges with seeds I eat the seeds and that seems to keep me satiated a little longer.

Thanks!!!!I thought it was that drink that instilled my calmness but my skeptical demons wouldn't let myself beileve that.
Thank you so much for your reply. Would you mind being my raw food support buddy? My friends in person have a very food deprived lifestyle and are going to think I am whacky.
I am loving the food, just loving it.Plus, I am actually hungry now-not just at night, but all day long. Today I ate more food than I have ever eaten but not a lot of calories. I had:
Coffee (it's not real coffee, I do believe it is roasted though) and rice milk (raw, soaked rice milk)
a raw blueberry and unprocessed oat bar (all raw)
the green juice blend I talked about earlier
    2 avocados
    an apple
carrot juice mixed with a bit of mango and orange juice
and now I am drinking a smoothie with raw almonds, raw rice milk, raw hemp protein, raw cocuao (sp?) nibs, coconut puree, bananas and ice

I do have one question. I drink a lot of tea, yerba matte and green tea mostly. Is this considered raw? Regardless I am still going to drink it because I do recognize I will not be able to be 100 percent raw. But I am curious.

What kind of changes did you see in your body after going raw?

LoL I would love to be your raw food supporter. Feel free to PM me anytime...I can recommend some raw food message boards too.

Coffee, if it's fair trade and fresh brewed, actually has a lot of antioxidants, and if you have strong adrenals and your endocrine system doesn't feel exhausted after the initial kick wears off...is not that bad for you. In fact coffee is a panacea compared to some of the soft drinks that are out there. Just get fair trade, soo important to not pay farmers 1 doller a day for their precious beans. Coffee Cherry pickin is tedious work too. If your not a coffee addict yet, I'm not sayin you should become one...but if you are don't be hard on yourself about it or anything...It's a good feeling, you can't deny that. Just know it can throw you off balance in the long run and really exhaust your nervous system.

Yerba Mate's the same way. If your metabolism can handle it, it's all good in my book. Herbal tea is very healthy in my opinion too. You can get free organic tea samples at http://www.yogitea.com Be high raw with common sense. Its great to get off bread and meat and junk food... but not good to get off the things that keep you sane. As long as it's organic and you feel good eating it... it's probably okay : )

CACAO NIIIIBS ARE SOOO GOOD. My god, my favorite food. I just got a free bag in the mail today cuz I had a bag from sunfood.com that had a amazon peanut in it and I emailed them and they hooked me up with a free 10 doller bag today, lol. I was SOO excited to get them. Thats what helped me transition into raw. It's a potent appetite suppressant because it's an mao inhibitor...and it's fatty and more nutritious than almost anything, so it's a healthy appetite suppressant. Plus it's great for enhancing your mood if used right, if you havent noticed yet. Sacredheartchocolate.com just came out with an excellent new raw chocolate bar. I HIGHLY recommend reading more about cacao @ sunfood.com, and maybe invest in David Wolfe's book Naked Chocolate...

Raw rice milk is a new concept to me. I've heard of blended almond milk and I've enjoyed it several times... but I've never seen raw rice milk...Coconut milk is my favorite =) Kinda pricey to make a regular habit of, but it's literally like the best beverage on the planet.

You might wanna check out http://www.rawfoodmedia.com for some raw food primer videos. Their pretty entertaining and interesting too. Hope this helps,
    Peace love and wheatgrass =)

I am SO HUNGRY ad nothing I eat fixes it. I had 2 apples and a banana for breakfast and an apple and an avocado for lunch and am eating blueberries and having yerbamate right now and I am starving! I would make a raw protein shake, but I feel so cold that I can't handle drinking something cold. When I went outside it said it was 70 degrees so knowing I should not be this cold I took my temperature and it was 97 degrees. My normal temperature is 97.7 so I am low normally but 97 flat seems a bit too low imo. I am just freezing, hungry and my glands are swollen. Is this normal? I read about people having headaches and all from their bodies detoxing but not about the temperature change or gland swelling. i don't want to quit. I just want to know that this will go away.

yes I did and loved the site thank you :). I am drinking ginger tea right now and lots of water, which I can feel running down my stomach. I've felt that before but not this far down where I feel in move even further down a couple seconds later. I am shamlessly using vanity as my motivator right now...I have lots of cute halter tops and can't wear any of them right now because...well I just think unless you have a near perfect body you shouldn't be showing all your junk. so bathing suit season...hot san diego summers...booze cruises...men and how much I love flirting and teasing when I know I look good.
I know I sound awful and vain but whatever will keep me on track at this point...I'm grabbing for things.
