im on that too. 75mgs per day. how long have you been on them? as i personally would say they are quite nasty. they have side effects and stuff when you try to come off them, dizziness and such.

anyway 'bout what you asked, they dont react badly with other drugs as far as i know. only alcohol can reduce the anti depressant affect, but you shouldnt get bad reactions or anything. hope this helps and maybe talk to your doc about other anti D meds. efexor really arnt good.

I have a hard time even smoking weed on effexor ( I get paranoid and sometimes a little psycho) and I'm on the lowest dose there is (37.5 mg). I don't like effexor personally I feel way to drugged up. my perscription is actuially for 75mg a day but I cut them in half because I hate how apathetic and cold I am on the full dose. I'm trying to ween myself off of them.
I would not reccomend experiementing with any drugs if you have a mental imbalance.

oh get off the damn effexor, it is really bad, ask your doc to try something else...i had an insane time when i was on it... one night i had smoked and i was just so messed there were points were i blacked out but i was still moving i went from being upstairs to being in the kitchen and i had no recollection of getting there...and like lynsey said it made me paranoid and very apathetic...i'm not on any meds now, i worked through everything and for me meds made it worse, but i would definitely talk to your doc about it...good luck with everything, much love :)

exactly I almost lost my friends, my boyfriend, did a shitty job at work all because of being over medicated.

I ahve post traumatic stress disorder so there's really no reason for me to be on a daily med. I just need a prn for panic attacks.

also, effexor is an anti-anxiety med, not an anti-depressant

its an anti depressant aswell as an anti anxiety. it helps with seratonin levels as well as bloking noradrenaline reuptake i believe. thats what my bnf and mimms say ( british medical staff info books).

oh and random zephyr, i did do mushrooms once on efexor and i wouldnt say they had adverse affects, but i guess its different for everyone. the efexor can be good for depression and stuff but its when its time to come off them that you'll find theres problems. if i miss just one dose it feels like ive been spun around and around and then left to try and walk about. thats the best way i can describe it.

The only anti-depressant that can be trusted is the SSRI (Selective Serotonin Re-Uptake Indicator) Citalopram (otherwise known as Celexa). I've experimented with it through times of dark and it has got me back on my feet with no negative side-effects, and have read much about it's effectiveness.

Random_Zephyr - can I just ask why you're asking whether psychedelics will affect your medication? Surely if you're taking medication for depression then the shrooms and the acid will only make it worse. Can't you see what you're doing to yourself? Maybe these psychedelic hallucinogenics have sparked up some incompatability between neuro-transmitters in your brain to produce imbalanced chemistry and negative effects such as depression, anxiety, god knows what else.

Mixing them takes the piss. Taking hallucinogenics when you are depressed takes the piss.

I take it you've tripped on psychoactive substances before - this could of opened up a hole that consumes you which you now know as depression. Carry on tripping out and see where you end up - I hope it's not too far away.

Although not classed as an SSRI, Effexor does inhibit the reuptake of serotonin, therefore it can reduce the effects of serotonergic drugs such as psilocin. I also agree with the above advice that psychedelics are best avoided if suffering from depression.

i should have been more clear. i havent taken any psychedelic drugs before, but was planning on experimenting, and in the meantime was put on effexor.

when i smoke pot on effexor i dont notice any bad side effects. and i havent noticed any strange feelings while on it. maybe im one of the types of people that do good with it, rather than an MAOI.
