North Korea. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/07/04/korea.missile/index.html I have always said that we should have dealt with NK before we looked at Iraq.
It's not so much we haven't been keeping an eye on them. We have. The US just doesn't really know how to handle the situation. We really know what a danger allowing Pyongyang to perfect long range missles is, on the other hand, any military option has the danger of isolating us from our allies of South Korea, Japan, and China, which is really our only channel of diplomacy for an isolationist and somewhat insane regime. Sanctions don't work on North Korea, they can get all they need for missles from various sources, and most sanctions just have an unacceptable negative effect on citizens of North Korea who are already in famine conditions because of Pyongyangs leadership. We can't shoot down any test missle because North Korea would consider that justification for war. North Korea isn't the sort of country we can just take out a few bases. So our only options with North Korea involve trying to continue diplomacy or war. A war with North Korea would be devestating to the particularly devestating to the civilian population as all their military is buried deep within heavily civilian areas.
I'm kinda nervous about this ... Is the U.S. going to flip and do something stupid because of these launches, or is the military laughing their *sses off because the long-range missle fizzled? Peace, Ryvr
North Korea does not need to be dealt with. And "WE" do not need to be the ones dealing with them. The United states needs to be dealt with. Regardless of whether or not Bush is behind the missile testing in NK, if the US gov was not such a power hungry military machine, there would be no benefits for Kim to even put missiles up. Either he is doing it for the money, or Bush is doing it for the War.
We should ignore an erratic regime which has no regard for it's own citizens with nuclear weapons testing missiles to hit US shores? That's rational.
its this exact "WE" mentality that's causing all the problems. North Korea wants to be dealt with. Kim isn't stupid. But why should it always be the united states? What right do they have to be the world's police. They have nobody to answer to, and in recent events, have proved themselves to be much more wreckless and war hungry that NK.
Who keeps an eye on the US of A? And who made America the police of the world? Plus I think the surrounding countries should be more considered than America. This is just fear mongering.
I am sure America never launched any test missiles. If so they should be dealth with. Oh wait, no they should not. They are America.
Ignoring is probably not a good idea. We should chant AUM and send loving energy towards them. Peace, Ryvr
A leader who starves their people and uses hostile military gestures to justify is to North Korean people... how do you define restraint? The US is the most prominent nation in terms of economy and military, and is a member of the security council, our allies in the region, specifically Japan and to an extant south Korea depend on the US to help them negotiate a deal with a hostile nuclear power.
The UN. Security council means a council to preserve security. I can tell you Japan and South Korea sure as hell are not not worried about a US attack.
Absolutely NOT. Allen Ginsberg did exactly that to bring peace, and at the very least, it will not cause harm. Anything the U.S. does is almost certain to cause harm because its Karma as an entity is so deeply contaminated.
I am absolutely sure America thinks the UN is bullshit and does everything it can to avoid it and reduce its credibility.
Why would the US attack our largest trading partener? Fear of robots of mass destruction? Jealousy of better cell phones?
The only hostile nuclear powers are those actively and demonstrably invading other nations and slaughtering tens if not hundreds of thousands of civilians (and of course subsequently whitewashing it as usual under the inhumane tagline "collateral damage". The same countries which have done so separately and together more times throughout the 20th century and into the 21st century than all other nuclear states combined. Hint: neither one is even remotely close to North Korea in geographical terms. No Lodui, your repeatedly regurgitated "official" mantras, slogans and soundbites on these boards only show you for the unresearched tv-indoctrinated drone that you are. The true major threat to world peace is an historically immature nation with far too much power and reach for its own or any other sovereign nation's good. One whose government, I might add, fits perfectly the salient portion of your previously posted description quoted above.
Each of us is capable of working to disperse bad karmas and spread good ones. Peace and compassion in the world depend on every word, action, thought, and breath that each of us produce each moment. Peace, Ryvr
