Just like I'm sure Radishacorn already knew that most of the people in here are too spoiled to even consider what he's talking about Hey Radish, thanks for the links. You might reach more people if you post this in the Communal Living and Camping and Outdoor living forum on this board.
Some do, some don't. It mostly depends on the people. If you have preconceptions about what living on a commune would be like, you're selling yourself short. They're all different.
I will, after I go and live w/ an old hippy love of mine for a while. I want to check out 'selfsustainingsociety's one very much. Sounds promissing.
I was looking at getting into Twin Oaks. However, I'm a Canadian and can't get in unless I'm rich or marry an american(or perhaps win the green card lottery). I was also conflicted about moving into a country that had just, at the time, re-elected Bush. I looked around here in Canada for a community like Twin Oaks, but failed miserably. I recently spent some time at one near Nelson, B.C., but that was a disaster. Oh well, looks like I'll have to keep looking.
We've considered it before. What do you guys do for income? I mean you gotta bring home the soysage?? I'm sure you grow a lot of your own food but what do you do for income for extra stuff you want? I checked into an ecovillage and found that most of them have outside jobs. I do love the concept. Tell us more!
The commune I live on makes and sells hammocks and tofu. Some smaller businesses of ours include writing indexes for books and growing flowers to sell at the local farmers market. A handfull of people have outside jobs (but no one has to have one). Peace, -Bubble
I love my boss.......lol........I work for myself. I get a few extras if I sell anything on ebay or craigslist. I may try to sell someones car for them.....she said she would give me a few extra bucks if I did......I'm gonna put it on the craigs list for my area, it's free to post a 7 day offer....here is enuff info for anyone who wants to check out the deal in their area.... main page for san fran area, all other states linked on, also a lot of other countries, side links on most pages. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/
My commune, acorn community has a mail order seed business, and a tinnery craft business. We have one member who has an outside job working with a friend, but here we don't need outside jobs either.
You can't worry about that kind of thing, would John Kerry really have been any better? I don't think so. Besides, these communes are supposed to be places to escape the outside world, So why worry about what politician is in power? If one politician is going to screw you over, chances are the others will as well.
