The Supreme Court just ruled to block military tribunals for detainees at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In light of this decision, now is the time for President Bush to close the doors to Guantanamo for good! Detaining persons without cause, denying due process in a court of law, and ignoring worldwide concerns about the inhumane treatment of detainees are rooted in values which run counter to the basic teachings of nearly every religion and spiritual practice and are acts one should never expect at any institution under US jurisdiction. The closing of the Guantanamo Prison would follow not only the ruling of our highest court, but also the recent tragic suicides of three detainees and the many admonitions by leaders around the world. Urge President Bush to close this inhumane facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba once and for all!Sign the petition… http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/602890897
Unfortunately, petitions don't hold that much weight. I would suggest having people write to their congressmen/women and senators to make an impact. They need to hear from their voters to know which way to vote or act.
I figure the hierarchy is this (to get attention): - Lobbying/payoff - Picketing - Writing a letter - Voting - Petitions
yeah, i write my congressman. People say its a good thing to do...but like most things (picket lines included) you have to have enough people to get these things noticed. Unfortunately... i dont know how much either will make a difference at this point. I try to stay positive, and i believe that things CAN change, but i also think you should try and change people locally at this point, because the one thing that has to change right now to really make a difference is people's viewpoints...the masses have to want to chose love and peace and they have to realize what exactly is going on...if we can do this, then maybe people like g. bush wouldn't get over on us so easily. peace and love
Guantanamo Prison should never have been opened, the fact that prisoners have been kept this long without charges, or legal assistance goes against the "democracy" Bush is trying to spread.
FUA. That's awesome. Too bad we couldn't put poop in a paper bag, light it on fire and put it on the whitehouse doorstep.
