Just a little update: The U.S. Senate has rejected the proposed Constitutional amendment to ban flag burning. The bill was defeated by a single vote ( the vote was 66-34, one vote short of the 67 needed to pass). The downfall of this bill in the Senate is a major blow to the Bush administration's agenda, as the President has been advocating heavily for its passage. For more information please read this: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/06/28/flag_burning_amendment_fails_by_a_vote/ So at least for now, this aspect of our free speech rights is still safe.
this rocks. i'm just sad their isn't a site that shows who voted what really clearly so i could know if i should write and th.nk you note to my senators. i actlly no they voted for the ban
Nothing seems to be going right for Bush and his administration anymore. One fucking vote, huh? God sure is on his side, haha.
They knew it would never pass, but now they can go on the election trail and tell their constiuents they voted for it. It will get them some supporters, it always does.
Exactly. That's what it's all about in the first place. That and a diversion from the real issues. Just another stupid stunt to drum up more 'patriotism.'
Brownxfoot, here is the link to the web site you asked for: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00189 This lists all 100 Senators and how they voted on the bill. And one thing about the Boston Globe article I linked to in my original post, they made a typographical error when they listed the vote tally. The Globe listed the vote as 36-64 (they reversed the last digit of each number). The actual vote was 34-66. I just wanted to clarify that point in case anybody noticed it.
Here are the results of the vote if anyone is interested. This is from the official Senate web site that I linked to before: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/L...on=2&vote=00189 I thought it would be simpler to post the results here so you would'nt have to leave the forum or open a new window to see it. 00189 27-Jun On the Joint Resolution Rejected S.J.Res.12 as Amended; A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States authorizing Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States. Did anyone catch Rush? It was pretty funny, after spitting fire over the failure to pass this amendment he created a "Demco environmentally friendly flag" commercial. Made out of hemp, it's sole purpose would be for all the anarchists/liberals to burn. Ah, you gotta love the conservatives for a good laugh.
Sorry, I missed that one. There was a time when conservatives could make an itelligent argument, then concede defeat when they lose. It seems the only thing modern conservatives can do is to make fun of the other side when they don't get their way. You're right about it being good for a laugh, Rush's program can be quite comical at times.
Actually I find it sad that so many democrats caved and voted for possible votes. I am glad I am "Green". I can vote for who I think is most suiting, and not vote for those that are trying to manipulated public opinion.
Google images ==> ''flag burning '' , see the results , try the same thing with Yahoo *Peace and love* Yours Sincerely,Cat Stevens
I did the image search you described on both google and yahoo. All I saw was protesters burning the flag and a few polictical cartoons about the proposed Constitutional amendment. So I'm not sure what your point is. Was there a specific image that you wanted to point out?
No, not a specific image, All I saw was protesters burning the (US) flag, isn't it?*Peace and love* Yours Sincerely,Cat Stevens
i am proud that both carper and biden from delaware (my home state) voted "nay" Personally, i think its a little weird that they even had this in the senate... i mean, don't we have better things to do with our time? (MAYBE NOT) But, if for no other reason than to see Bush choke, i am glad it didn't pass! I know, it's bad to hate, but i don't hate the guy, i just think he's a lousy excuse of a person and should have never been considered for anything but a position at McDonalds. However, these days, i suppose you can't be too surprised by anything he does. Peace and love
Sadly Yem - this is how they get us. That waste their time on petty things which distracts them from the more important issues at hand. Makes them feel like they are doing something, when in reality they are doing nothing at all.
Only a coward would burn Old Glory in protest. Anyone who hates my country that much should leave. Heck I will help them pack. 7.65
Heh. I just like fire. Good grief, Bush desecrated the flag a few times by autographing some. If a flag is worn out, you're SUPPOSED to burn it. Did I miss something?
