And boy am I pissed & sad about it. Ah well, they did well (better than we did anyway) & as my bf said it was no disgrace. He also blames the manager & that when he gets back, they're going to "string him up by the bulloks" lol. Sigh. What a shame. Ah well lads, better luck next time right?
well saw the match and they played better than the other team when they were down to 10 men , but before that they were pretty ropey . I havent taken any interest in the world cup until that last game and I cant say Im disappointed as football isnt my favourite game . I feel sorry for all the england fans, but its not the end of the world, just a game played by very rich people .
My local town in the South West of England has a large Portugese community who all work in a local factory, there were 2 riot vans and 30 policeman guarding their 2 cafes the Portugese run and own directly after the match. During the night the windows got smashed.
It's a shame that the only decently kicked balls belonged to the portuguese player..... Ah well... same ol' scenario.... try again in four years i guess....
In all seriousness, what did you expect with Sven in charge? If we would have got through who would've played up front against France, Crouch? With Rooney suspended and Owen out injured. Oh well, there's always next time.
when did they bring in yellow and red cards ? if you look at the way the portugal team played up being hurt wouldnt it be better to give say a free kick. its one of the things I dislike about football how some teams (southern europe) seem to make a big thing about being hurt . Id personally like to whomp people like that with a club or wet fish
I was in my work's staff room when England was playing on Saturday. Three guys had a two hour break, we're only meant to have 45 minutes and I could not believe how shakey they were getting throughout the match. I can't believe what Rooney did though!
I agree-right in the nads! That HAD to hurt...as Austin Powers would say:"no matter what he's like, u just don't knee a guy in the pills, it's just not right" lol.
I am actually glad we lost, people were so full of it and get all worked up about 'kicking a ball'! What fun is that...
I think it's sad and somewhat depressing that people who call themsleves 'hippies' of any kind take interest in this moronic pastime. It's just another opium for the people!
Nah, it causes to working class to organize or something.... Football is a good thing though; it encourages teamwork, and it's basically some of the only excersize i get (and need)
I've never seen it as teamwork, at least not at school. But maybe that's because I was crap. All I saw were a few twats who happened to be good at one solitary thing in their pathetic lives running around shouting abuse at us while they stroked their own egos. The real trouble I have with football is that it encourages nationalism, which is counter productive to social progress and the formation of class consciousness. When people are more concerned with kicking the Frogs, or keeping out the asylum seekers, they forget the things that really matter. Football, in some ways, feeds false consciousness. Terry Eagleton argued that if you banned sport, you'd have a revolution tomorrow....
I see your point about highschool football (i was never bad, but never great), but just going out and having a kickabout down at the park... But i do see your points, but i feel that the benefit of excersize people get from football is a big one. I've also always been able to bond with people through either playing or talking about football.
Oh I wouldn't ban football, it's just not for me, and I find a lot of the attitudes that come with professional football rather primitive....
