I recently emailed Steven Harper on things I thought where important. And all I got was a reply that doesn;t solve or give me anyhope or resurance for the future.
Here is the letter from the government.

    "Dear Shannon :

On behalf of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, I would like to thank you for
your e-mail correspondence. I regret the delay in replying.

Please be assured that your comments have been carefully reviewed. The Prime
Minister is always glad to hear from intelligent young Canadians like you, and
he has asked me to reply to your message. I want you to know that Mr. Harper
appreciates the time and effort you have invested in bringing your views to his
    attention.

Thank you again for writing. For more information on the Government's
initiatives, you may wish to visit the Prime Minister's Web site, at
    www.pm.gc.ca.

    B. Funes
    Executive Correspondence Officer
    for the Prime Minister's Office
Agent de correspondance de la haute direction
pour le Cabinet du Premier ministre"

I basically told him in my letter which I did not save that we need to help the African people and Palestine in Israel. I also wanted to know why we do not raise the flag or televise the soliders deaths. I got no answers at all! Some prime minister...some domecracy some country.

In my experience Conservative politicians tend be snobs and elitist.

Isn't the prime minister the "head" of the canadian government? And if so, then imagine how many letters and e-mails he receives a day. It would be better for you to send your views to a local representative than to the head of state.

That's true. It's true of the Liberal politicians as well. Politicians suck.

Yes the PM is the head of the Canadian government and I understand he gets a lot of letter/emails. But I wasn't looking for him personally to respond to the letter although that would have been nice. I was looking for answers as to why he is doing some of the things he is doing. For example why he has stop televising the soldiers deaths and raising the flag for at half mass for them. And all he said was thank you for the email by the way Mr. Harper is considering your veiws.
And thank you for the idea. I will try taking it to my local representative... Although I don;t think they will say much either.

This doesn't happen in the States either, and it's been admitted by many that it's strictly a marketing strategy. They don't want the public to focus on the negative.

Looking at the declining support for the war, I can understand why.

Does the declining support justify controlling media coverage, in a country that supposedly has freedom of the press?

No, I was merely agreeing with you. There should be more coverage on the war - however looking at the declining support shows why there isn't.

I hope you aren't deceived into thinking that the media and the government aren't in bed with one another.

Stephen Harper is much too busy writing his book on the History of Hockey... he can't listen to your suggestions. I mean, you have to have priorities in life, and Hockey comes before running Canada, obviously.

They won't. I interned for a Congresswoman 12 years ago, and there were templates for responses...just add the person's name to the greeting and it's even printed with the signature in a different color to make people think it was actually signed. Most likely some high school or college intern will open, read and then respond to your mail.

So you're saying that government officials shouldn't try to govern, but instead, just respond to the thousands of letters they receive a day.

You act like the government is out to get everyone, that everything they do is a lie, can't you believe for a second that they actually do work?

Well, I would think his job would be like most others, with on time and off time, I wouldn't expect anyone to work during their off time, therefore they could write a book if that's what they would like to do.

Thats not what Im saying at all they should govern as is why they are called government. Im just pissed off that he doesn't attempt to make a conncetion with the rest of the country. I mean he declined a invitation to an AIDS thing. And well if there is no real respones then why do they allow us the opption of sending them a letter?

And I personally believe that the government doesn't give a shit about anyone but them selfs. If this guy was making an attempt at anything right then maybe I would support him. He tried to take away gay marriage in Canada when in our constition it said no one shall be discrimanted agianst their sexual orentation their race their religion etc... So you tell me ...When he was trying to take away gay marriage was that nto discrimination? ANd writing a fucking hockey book wonderful we all have hobbies...But it should not be his number one priority he should be doing his Prime Minister job. He is feeding of the fact that he is the PM and free publicity for his stupid book!
