Private Slovik's execution has no merit in this day and age. Slovik did not enlist, he was drafted. He didn't just turn down orders, he deserted the Army.

    1) There is no draft.
    2) If an enlistee were to desert nowadays, they should most definitely be shot. The enlisting process is a long and involved process. You don't go through with it if you don't want to do it.

    Do you know this first-hand?

People who enlist, especially the thinking ones, do it knowing that they may be told to do something that they don't agree with. It's part of the job; no job is pretty all of the time.

I said they "should" be shot. It would be completely justified.

Only a fool would believe that every single soldier kills civilians on purpose. How many have you heard of? Not even fifty. How many have you heard of that have planted AK's on accidently murdered civilians? Not even ten.
This is out of the estimated 100,000 troops that have been deployed to the Middle East since 2003.
    Good job not generalising, buddy.

    Sorry but I'm not a conformist ;)

Don't pray for me. Get off your high horse, you're not better than anyone else.

I know the numbers, what the fuck do you want me to say?

I pay attention to the news, so unless you're getting inside scoops...

My usage of the word "accident" the second time was an accident. Oops.

    really?

When did they start planting weapons?

If you could post a link

I would love to read about that.

You've encountered troops who willingly tell you that they've planted guns on civilians they've shot?

You're full of shit, man. :D

There are marines now being held in solitary confinement for these sort of accusations. They performed their duties according to orders, but they will face courtmartial and probably years in jail. Those that issued the orders haven't been brought up for trial, why is that?

They went to illegal war; they are supporting BUSH the obvious Clear Evil? can you trust evil people, what do expect from evils? Punishment for performing your duty? did they know that? BUSH is EVIL very clear, do they deserve that! let them answer, they chose to be slaves! or to serve the evil? nobody forced them, it is better to disobey an illegal order than to kill an innocent, guilty deliberate criminals ! and in my story (this thread) was it an order? there are soldiers who are commiting such things without orders. who are they serving! Birds of feather flock together , it is expected

    Cat:

Many of the poor kids join up here, in order to pay for college and to get out of bad situations. They've never had good role models. Then they enlist. And civilian consultants tell them to do certain things. Who's more at fault the poor kids, or the consultants, and when will they be held accountable?

Politicsareawesome, I hope you are lying about enlisting, because you aren't going to last long on the front lines, and if you are just a high school graduate with no money, you are just plain cannon fodder. Plus, you are going into this ingnorant. Again I pray for your soul, even though I am not a religious person.

    Not kids.
It is Not necessary to study in college
    Says who
Told them so, didn't force them
The soldiers, 'cause without them, US cannot wage its illegal war
When they take action I guess

Actually Cat you make good points, but also the soldiers follow orders, and whose orders are they following right now? those of the Bush administration consultants: Haliburton and Carlyle, when will they be held accountable. I am a little tired of seeing the little soldier being held accountable for following the orders of huge corporations.

Thanks, but Again, they shouldn't follow illegal orders, like killing or mistreating prisoners, they know it is against the law! if the Army Commander ordered me to steal I won't obey him, 'cause it is against the law, it is illegal act! According to the rules you shouldn't obey illegal orders right! you should follow what you should do so, And when they knew that the war wasn't legal! I think they could expect to receive illegal orders!!!! when they feel orders are wrong they shouldn't obey it, clarify why, go to court, get a lawyer, facing jail for number of years is better than killing innocent or the like by obeying an illegal order!
All those who are involved should be held accountable. Bush is one of them.
