I've been working more and more at this restaurant that I've been working on weekends only during the school year and I can't help but feel burnt out. I worked three days in a row and I'm a total disfunctional girl.. my feet are killing me, I can't sleep and I can't stand stupid snobby people. I know working is the only way to get through in life... but do any of you have anything to say as to how I can get by this unfortunate reality? How do you guys get through it every week?
Well, its a bummer, the real thing to make it better is find a job you love to do. Now can you get that unsweetend ice tea for me with a side of lemon please.... LOL JK
I've worked in restuarants and other forms of food service for twelve years - the hours can be very long and the burn out rate high
this is my second year at my job and im worn out more than ever. i work with my friends so that helps but im working nearly everyday and i deal with my fair share of snobby, rude people. its a pain in the ass but eh gotta get a paycheck. once you get used to working all the time your body will adjust and hopefully your feet will stop hurting. last year i couldnt stand to be running around back and fourth for 8 hours but now its not nearly as bad. work sucks but its something you have to get used to
three days in a row is killing you?? wow..... Ive worked three doubles back to back before (these were open to close, 9 am to 11 pm, each, with an hour lunch break), and trust me, its not easy, but I could deal. gotta toughen up ..... waitressing is different than cooking though, because you ARE walking around alot more. cooks are usually just stationed behind grills or fryers or something, with not a whole lot of walking. I do remember when I was in buffet style restaurant, Id be dead tired after a double shift, or by the end of the week, because there was alot of walking (the buffet was quite a ways away from the kitchen...... and when I started to work full service, it wasnt quite so bad on my legs. most of it is standing behind a grill, or your certain station, with minimal walking. I feel sorry for waitresses, but they can usually make more money than cooks.
find something different in a field you are interested in. I used to last a month tops at most jobs before I would get fired or quit and then was like screw it I'm not meant to work and then I found a field I liked a couple years later
says the guy who is on the internet so long each day he can't possibly have a job leave her alone she's like 16
Dealing with the public is a bitch. It's worse if you're intellegent. It's pretty close to unbearable if you're intellegent yet niave enough to expect the bulk of humanity to be intellegent too. The good news is if you are intellegent you should be able to find a job where you don't have to deal with the public as much. It's kind of the natural order of things too; look around you at work. Notice how the less intellegent a co-worker is the less stressed out by all this shit they seem to be?
can you change your availability or ask to only work two days in a row? some places are more accepting of that than others..
Existence on this Earth is in great part physical (you mind, feelings - immaterial thingies as such constitute the other parts). As such, you need physical elements to sustain that life (which will permit you to have the other ones too!). Therefor, work becomes necessary - unless your rob a bank - which is also work... Work can also be great - depending on how you see it. During a break you can have a conversation with an employee who feels bad or is going through a tough time, you don't have to be a doctor to heel someone. Think of this: when you leave this Earth - will it have been a better place because you were here? ...and when you die, you will live for still a while in the memory of others. So, yes, not only is working normal but it's necessary to ground you to other beings like you.
just because millions of people are wage slaves who create vast wealth but recieve pennies on the dollars they create , doesnt mean you have to do the same thing . you can get money without that particular toil and humiliation .[now im sugesting you turn your wrath on your employer cause you wouldnt be dealing with the public the way you areif it were not for the indifference , greed , and sloth of your bosses who profit from alienating your toil .]dont get used to it , get mad at it and find other methods of feathering your little nest .....
not by a long chalk Only fools and horses work dear....... there are a gazzilion ways to make an income without breaking sweat or working for a boss till yer old and grey
Nah, work's good for you. Being a slave isn't. I think the trick is to remember that no matter what kind of job you have you're really just working for yourself.
Yep, a shrink years ago impressed on me that how you handle most everything in life boils down to the attitude you have. And that is totally in your control. (I personally HATE my boss, but the money is better than OK (though not great), the hours are flexible, I have alot of freedom, so what's to bitch about?) Someday I'll win the lottery and retire. Hahhahaha!
Yeah. When you take responsibility for where you are and what you're doing you give up the right to complain but you get alot back; In the carnival the game booth workers get a % of whatever they bring in (usually 20-35%). One time one of my coworkers asked me why I'd agreed to work for 20 points (%) that year, just as Christina (the boss) was coming by to collect the money. With christina standing there I turned to my coworker and told her "Christina works her ass for me, and things are slow this year, so I thought I'd give her a raise" Then I leaned towards my confused coworker and in a mock whisper, loud enough for the boss to hear, I said "See, Christina thinks she's paying me 20 points to run her booth. Truth is I pay her 80 points to keep the show going for me so I can come and go as I please". Christina rolled her eyes and said, "Whatever works".
