Could someone explain something to me? Why does curing increase potency vs. standard drying? I thought the THC in the plant is what got you where you wanted to go, so if thats right, wouldn't there be the same amount as in the dry bud? Is it a smaller mass issue? I'm not saying I don't think it works, everything I read on the subject says it does, I'm just a little confused as to "how". God Bless the Green.
There are many components that contribute to the marijuana high besides THC. There are something like 2 dozen other psycho-active cannibanoids in the plant material. Which is why some pot makes you sleepy, some make you laugh like a loon, some makes you horny, some gives you killer muchies, or baaaaad cottonmouth, etc. It's from the combination of all these other components that makes 1 strain of pot different than another, as well as the amt of THC. When you cure, the THC levels don't go up or down. BUT curing means allowing a gas to build up in the jars that break down the chloraphyll and other chemical changes to occur which turn the non-psycho-active alkaloids to become psycho-active. When the glass jar or other sealable container is opened, the gas, which filled up the jar and stopped the curing process, escapes and when the jar is re-sealed a few minutes later the process continues. In addition, curing allows the pot to be stored in peak of perfection for so much longer. When another plant product that people smoke--tobacco--is properly cured, and stored in humidity and temp-controlled environment (like a humidor), it can remain in perfect condition for decades. In 1990, pre-Castro (prior to 1960) Cuban cigars were some of the most expensive cigars around. That's 30 years or more. Curing makes the pot taste and smell better, makes it burn cooler and increases potency by approx. 30%. Once you smoke slow-dryed and properly cured (2 weeks AT LEAST) weed, you'll never go back to harsh, hay-tasting tongue-burning pot again.
Well, that actually makes perfect sense. Thx for the info Ranger. Does this mean that the end effect of your high changes too? For example, regular dried weed gives you X effect, whereas cured weed gives you XY? Or is it just potency? A bigger X so to speak?
You'll get a "diiferent" high off of cured weed vs. uncured. Different AND stronger; you've "activated" the inactive cannibanoids.
Yup definitely way better cured. If you have no bud and you are smoking as it cures you can taste it getting better every time.
