Yeah, and the vinegar would soak through the paper. Chips always seemed to taste so much better then.

They still are wrapped in newspaper, well it's the same actual
paper that news paper is made from but with no printed ink.
I remember when it got wrapped in newspaper though, so many
times I had the Sun (tabloid newspaper) page 3 showing when
I bought fish and chips as a kid. LOL

must be uk. here in the states they tried to fake it for a while with the kind of sanitary legal paper they had to use with fake newspaper decorations printed on it. can't say as i've ever had it wrapped in a real newspaper at all.

well every state and municipality has their own resteraunt/food stall health codes, so concievably there might be one somewhere where it might be possible, but kind of unlikely. if it ain't fake it ain't american.

In the UK it used to be wrapped in yesterdays newspaper for real but it would usually have a layer of grease proof paper or something. Nowadays I've never seen a shop where they still use newspaper, it just wouldn't be allowed, unless someone knows otherwise.

They still do it around where I am. They wrap them in that greaseproof paper first and then in the old newspaper.

Fish & Chips wrapped in newspapers was a bit before my time but I remember that in the mid-seventies 'take-away chips' were about 15p;for which you would get a steaming hot bagful & I downed them with a large glass of 'R Whites fizzy Lemonade'.

I've eaten shark but found it really salty, maybe just the dish I had but not keen to try it again, but it least I've given it a go.

They got a fish and chip place that still does that in Dundas ontario (near Hamilton), really cheap too $4 I think for 2 pieces of fish and more chips than I could eat, all wrapped in newspaper. I rarely have it as its high in fat, also high in deliciousness.

hehe so it's not just uk then.I used to be sent to the village on a cold winters night to buy fish n chips for all the family because I could run all the way across the common with them inside my jacket so they wouldn't get cold.It was the one day of the week where the rules were thrown out of the window and we'd all sit infront of the tv.If thats one thing I miss - it was all of us sitting around a table, talking.Hasn't happened in.. 20 years
