more excerpts from the national geographic article:

"It's been very trendy lately to try to put skinny-dipping on the list of sex offenses for which you have to register with the state. It's already passed in 13 states," Morton said. "That's ridiculous. Go to any nude beach and you will understand that in ten minutes. But people confuse nudity and sex all the time. They don't bother to distinguish between the two, and that's the root of a lot of our problems."

While naturists continue to struggle for acceptance in the United States, in Europe it's usually a nonissue. "France has more clothing-optional beaches and campsites than you can possibly number. Croatia has nude beaches up and down the coast. So does Italy and the southern coast of Spain. Germany has large city parks where you can hang out naked. I could go on and on with other examples," Storey said. "The United States is the only Western country that is still struggling to figure this issue out."

I pick up stations on dish from Europe and other countries. They show people on the beaches topless or nude occasionally during the weather reports, fashion shows, and things. No one has any problem with it. In the U.S. people have a nervous breakdown over the sight of a nipple on tv and make a political and crime issue out of it.

Not to mention that he wants to strengthen the Patriot Act and control content on the internet... what a fucking dictator-in-the-making.

all this "puritanism" from the politicians is stupid and ridicolous...

what is so wrong and terrible in a naked body? it's just being natural.. feeling the gras on your skin withouy cloth-boundaries...

..and there is much more nudity in the commericials spot than around the fields and beaches... why do they permit it? :)

The moral 'majority' thinks it knows what's best for everyone and will try to dictate it on everyone. It's ashame more people don't speak out against it. People who would otherwise speak out loudly against more trivial issues get strangely quiet on this issue.

A group in NY did a photo a while back under a bridge where people were nude. The religious right put up a big legal stink about it and tried to stop it. The group ended up doing the photo anyway. It wasn't pornographic and was under a bridge where no one could see it anyway.

Regarding Ashcroft, he blamed the $8000 curtain over the statue on reporters. He said they were deliberately shooting him with the statue so that the breast appeared with him in the scene.

It comes down to the simple fact that people are afraid of the human body. Being naked is of course perfectly natural. I find it dispicable that someone could be arrested and thrown in prison just because they don't feel the need to wear clothes. It's nothing more than social programming and control of people. The U.S. is a horrible country. It's truly amazing anyone could ever call the U.S. a free country.
