I recently purchased a peace pipe at a local native american pow-wow. I'll post a picture of it as soon as i can. But that is off topic, anyways i was preforming a ceramony inside (because it was raining) and i took a big draw on the pipe, when i exhaled there was a BIG puff of smoke infront of me that just stayed there for awhile and then ( note i was not on any psychoactives) i saw a facein the smoke and a feeling of intense oneness (with myself, nature, and the great spirit) and then the smoke disapated leaving me in a state of awe. I have smoked many times since then but i think that was a once in a lifetime thing any thoughts heron

Devin, you are sounding your age man. If you bought it at the pow wow then its a souvenir, no one would ever seriously sell a real "peace pipe", a pipes a pipe regardless of the fashion in which it was made. I make antler and bamboo long steamed pipes, not peace pipes at all, just earthy pipes. Our tribe has one we smoke in ritual, but not under the pretense of "peace pipe" Are you native at all btw?
oh sorry, I didn't know what to call it other than a "peace pipe" It's pretty nice though. I thought about buying one that was made out of bone but it was way out of my price range.. P.S. I bought a small little wooden pipe from some Native Americans at a festival. I'm pretty sure it's just a souvenir. Of course, you COULD smoke from it...I don't think I'm going to though.
I have made numerous pipes. I prefer using persimmon for the bowl. It's hard as hell when its seasoned but the folks I have given them to say they last for ever. I have made a lot of bamboo pipes because I have a lot of bamboo. Boo makes great stems but I have used a lot of native dogwoods for stems too. Presently I am working with soapstone for the bowls and I am using that as a practice medium before moving up to catlanite (sp). That is the red "blood stone" used by the plains Indians.
I make my own pipes, strait, traditional, opium pipes and indian ones too, smoke'em it's allright ... very soothing, but if you call those spirits on you, you'll be begging them to leave but then it would be too late ... you can call for the devil any way, you dont realy need a pipe !!!___ I heared that too much Co2 & Co from the smoke, could cause halusination or mental delusions ... I donno, just don't do this again
