This came up in another thread, so I thought I'd address it here.

My doctor has told me that I can't have a tubal until I'm either 30yrs old OR have 2 kids.

Does anyone know how true this statement is? Is that a policy that's up to the individual doctor?

I am very firm in my decision to not want kids and I think this should be my choice.

I wanted mine done in 1980ish, I was well under 30 too. No they wouldn't do it & no I never had kids, I'll be 48 next month. I had it done when I was 38.

I had to wait till I was thirty as per my Doctor. I think it's just there to cover thier ass but I can't say that I blame them. 30 is a good age to know that you've fought against your biological clock and won for certain and that you won't be coming back wimpering a few years down the road wanting a reversal.

Don't get me wrong. I too have always known that I was never having kids so I know that 23 is the right age for some people, it's just that Doc's gotta protect themselves in this crazy "I'm gonna sue your ass" world.

Many doctors willnot do a tubal on a woman who has never had kids. But you can find someone who will. It will probably take a lot of leg work. I have a friend who sent out letters to all the OBGYN's in her provider area and 1 responded. She had a tubal at 24 and she had no kids. It is up to the doctor what their policy. There is no law that will prevent you from getting one. Kepp looking. Medicine is a money business and someone will surely do the tubal.

Many times it will depend on the state you live in. In NC you have to be at least 21 unless its a medical reason. I'm 25 and had mine last year.

go to canada to get it done, docotrs can't refuse to treat a patient (even for elective procedures) based on their personal beliefs or morals. (its illegal for example to refuse a patient the morning after pill, unlike in the states) its hard to sue doctors up there but its easier to get liscences revoked for not taking their patients medical needs or desires into consideration.
